Waterford United is delighted to announce a friendly match against Liverpool XI on Friday, July 17th, at the RSC. The match will give fans the chance to see the Blues’ and Reds’ stars of the future in the RSC, with a kick-off time of 7.45pm on the night. The match will see a return to the RSC for a Liverpool XI side who faced the Blues in July 2011 in front of 5000 supporters at a packed RSC. On that occasion, it was Blues defender Seamus Long who was the match winner with his header separating the teams on the night. The Liverpool XI side on that day had a number of players that have gone on to play for the Reds first team – most notably current England star Raheem Sterling. Nathan Eccleston, Brad Smith, Jesus Fernandez (Suso) and Nabil Elzhar were all also part of the Liverpool team on the day. One of the biggest clubs in the world, Liverpool FC have an incredible level of support in around Ireland, and this one-off match will be one of the hottest tickets this summer for football fans throughout the southeast of Ireland, and beyond. Speaking ahead of the game, Waterford United chairman John O’Sullivan said: “It will be fantastic to welcome a Liverpool XI side back to the RSC this summer after the great occasion on their visit four years ago. There is a huge Liverpool support around Waterford and around Ireland, and this will be a great chance for all to see the stars of the future on display, on one of the finest playing surfaces around the country. “This will also be a great occasion for our own players, too, and a great opportunity to test themselves against some of the best up and coming talent from across the water.” Ticket prices will be announced shortly. I think they might be also playing Bray
Hope they make a few quid out of it and no doubt they'll appreciate it, not like them deluded bohs fans..
