Since Van arrived and played 20 league games we've conceded 12 in that time, 0.6 goals per game. We've also got 11 clean sheets.

Before he came in we conceded 1.13 goals per game.

    That’s worldclass

There was a break by Willian in the second half where himself and Gomez played like a partnership that had been together for years, Gomez slowing Willian up and VVD cleaning up behind, it was only a fleeting moment but perfect example of their level of understanding. The goal was poor for both but they'll learn from it hopefully.

Himself and Gomez were very good today. The fullbacks were terrible and should have had the ears chewed off them for some of their defending. I'd go as far as saying we have the best back 3 in England now.

Arnold badly caught out of position for the goal imo

Absolute colossus. See the difference when he is on the park. Gomez looks great beside him, full backs didn’t play great today but he covers the space well and directs Gomez. Outstanding leader and giroud got nothing out of him like many other forwards moving forward this season

Some off his passing was very bad today.. seem to hoof the ball rather than place..other than that decent game today

Nice stats, but you need to dig a lot deeper before they really show how valuable he is or isn't ... what opponents did we play, were those games at home or away, where their best players playing and on form etc. etc.

All that said, I'm 100% convinced that he's a big addition to our CD line up and only wish we'd bought a second CD (even close to being) as good as him.

Maybe a little but it's part of what makes him the player he is IMO

Happy for Koeman to be saying it and not Klopp

Personally don’t find anything wrong in Koeman has said , Van is one of not the best CB in the world and can look like he doesn’t get out of 2nd gear at times

Wow quite a bizarre outburst, he's not saying for anyone's benefit other than his own in some effort to assert his dominance. Strikes me as a guy that's massaging his own ego in public, the comment below cements that for me.

"I told Virgil within 30 seconds of the end of the game against France what I thought"

Playing with broken ribs the past few weeks if you believe Koeman.

I think I would trust the club's medical staff over Dr. Koeman, there's no way he would've been allowed travel without play with two broken ribs.
