Yeah he's a tricky one, he's a really good worker, always puts everything on the line for the team when he's out there but I also feel that there are better players out there if we really went looking but with the number of new starters likely in the first 11 next season he might be worth keeping just for some consistency with this season, you can't bed in 4/5 new players all at once and we'll definitely have a new RB, likely a new LB, hopefully Wirrtz and someone that's an improvement on Nunez, other than that I'm happy with where we're at assuming no major departures ( the likes of Chiesa & Elliot don't count as major for me)
Of our 6 forwards, you could assume Diaz is after Salah in terms of the ones we wouldn't want to get rid of - but the reality is we can't make clubs pay out for Chiesa, Jota, Nunez which is why we seem to be laying feelers out there that only a massive bid would start conversations with the club. Which we are not going to get from Barcelona, I read somewhere that they were willing to offer £45m including add-ons which is why don't even want to engage with them in conversations. However if the Saudis come in with a £100m bid, then chats may be had. Personally speaking I wouldn't like to see him go, but if he isn't signing, or the club are not offering a new contract with 2 years left to go, you can see the logic, doesn't mean we have to agree with it though.
I don't think we are at that point at all to be honest. I think Nunez will go, I think you'd have buyers for Jota if we are letting him go. There's no issue with Jota's work rate or finishing but we cannot rely on him to stay fit. Likewise I think you'll get a buyer for Chiesa if we want to let him go. It's the 6th June, the window opened less than a week ago. I think Liverpool would be willing to sell Diaz but they are making clear people can get fucked with stupid offers, he's contracted to us for another two years, we don't have to sell him but I think they will if they get a big money offer. The soundings are that a new offer is not on the table. I think the club are probably quite calm about his situation to be honest.
Am I the only one who isn't that arsed about the Wirtz fee? I've done enough whinging about FSG not spending money over the years that it would be disingenuous to complain. If the scouting team & frugal owners believe the lad is worth €150m who am to disagree. Lukaku over his 2 spells cost Chelsea €127m in transfer fees & scored 15 goals, or €8.5m per goal. Florian is gonna be just fine.
We had quite a threadbare squad last season and have already lost a RB snd GK. I'd like to see several more signings before we consider letting any more leave the club never mind valuable experienced players like Diaz or Jota.
Same. He's pure quality. Doesn't bother me in slightest. You pay top price for top talents Liverpool have submitted a revised offer to Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz of £113 million as talks continue between the clubs. The package guarantees Leverkusen £100million with the additional £13 million in add-ons. more @TimesSport Paul Joyce Looks like we're nearly there
Liverpool close to completing the £1.5m signing of young Hungarian goalkeeper Armin Pecsi from Puskas Akademia. Set to start next season playing for the under-21s but his development will also be enhanced by training with Alisson/Mamardashvili. Nominated for Europe's golden ball award as well. Astute signing. Future looks so bright in our goalkeeping department.
One of the more reputable journalists posted up that the overall value of the bid is the same as the previous bid that went in at the beginning of the week. Which would align with some of the whispers that Leverkusen were happy with the overall fee and negotiations were about the add-ons. So say a total bid of £113m last week was £80m & £33m add-ons, we've now back with £100m & £13m add-ons. Either way she seems close!
I wonder is the way we handled Darwin thus season back firing? Seems fairly clear the stories were true aviation not starting him because it would trigger add-ons for Benfica. Leverkusen could be wise to that and want add-ons much more favorable thsn could have been agreed previously. That could be just my confirmation bias kicking in because I didn't like how we treated him,he didn't deserve that and I'm sure Klopp would have allowed it.
Understand Federico Chiesa’s priority for this summer transfer window is to return to Italy. Chiesa loves Liverpool but limited game time an issue and Italian clubs started contacts to be informed on potential deal conditions. Tap in merchant tweeting this so looks like he's off. Great number 6 option but he wants to go so no hard feelings. Leaves as a league winner and some great memories for him. Will probably make a profit from him too so can't complain
He is a player that could walk into ANY team in Europe. I am astounded / delighted we are getting him to be honest. Honestly didn't believe the rumours.
Tap in merchant went early. Ornstein saying still negotiating. He couldn't wait to get in there first.
It's very rare I get excited about transfers these days, especially when its for players I know very little about. But if the manager and his staff want a player this badly, then as usual I'll trust their judgement and I look forward to seeing him play for Liverpool. Lads in work today were saying there's a lot of chat about what kind of numbers he'll have to do to justify his fee, which is a bit simplistic imo. The FSG model always allowed for an "overspend" on the right player, because what matters is we get as much value as possible out of all the money we spend, and if he compliments his teammates in the way we need him to, then it won't simply be a case of whether his individual numbers justify the fee. When you build a squad the way we have, then it allows you to go the extra mile to get the most suitable player possible, rather than settling for a lesser player thats cheaper. It won't stop everybody else judging him solely by his numbers, but all that matters in the end is that he helps us be succesful.
Price is what you pay. Value is what something is worth. Only time will tell on the Wirtz fee. Its usually only thrown around as 'banter' by opposition fans, we are guilty of it ourselves sometimes, laughing at the sums Chelsea, City or United spend. No-one is mentioning shit about the Alisson & VVD fees because they have proven their value - we are back to the same data driven approach that signed the best players in their positions. I don't doubt the scouting team has it right, yet again.
Darwin Nunez remains guaranteed exit at Liverpool this summer with Saudi Pro League clubs keen since January. Understand also Napoli have made contact in the recent days with Nunez on the shortlist and more talks to follow soon. Darwin, open to both Saudi-European options. Easy one this. Entertain zero Italian bids and let him off to Saudi with a good luck and thanks
100% agree with you. Such a pity it never really worked out for him. But one thing for sure he'll remember the love and support he received for the fans. Any other club he'd be thrown to the dogs
I think he'd be unreal at Napoli, they love a headbanger down there and he'd given them that and more. Would love to see him there but we'd and up giving them a 20 year loan in exchange for a reconditioned FIAT. So off to Saudi with him for big money.
