Yeah its just lovely to see.

Had to laugh there over the weekend there when the "Utd make 80m take it or leave it final offer for Sancho"
Despite the fact that Dortmund have stuck adamantly to their 108m fee since day 1, gave an August deadline for any deal, arent hurting for cash it seems, and Sancho isnt exactly throwing his toys out of the pram to go.

Can just imagine how that call went (if it happened at all of course)

Woodward - We want Sancho, 80m take it or leave it!!!!!

    Watzke - who is this?

Woodward - Ed Woodward, I'm chief exec of the biggest club in England

Watzke - Ah, sorry Ed. How is Jurgen?

Woodward - Erm.....No Jurgen doesnt work here, this is Ma....

Watzke - What?!?! Jurgen is out of work?!?!? Do you have his mobile number???

Woodward - Listen this isnt Liverpool, its Manchester U.....

Watzke - Ooooooh sorry, usually Pep calls himself, so you can understand my confusion

Woodward - NO...UNITED....MANCHESTER UNITED, getting back to the whole 80m for Sancho....take it or leave it!!! I mean it

Watzke - Erm ok...we'll leave it thanks.

    Woodward - but....but...but...we're Man Utd.....

Watzke - Yes.....yes you are, and thats nobodys fault but your own

The offer was for an initial £73m, rising to up to £91.3m, which fell short of Dortmund's £108m valuation.

Just the £35m short and 7 weeks late but other than that it's a brilliant offer.

United's money men are living in the past.
No longer will the mere mention of their name have players demanding moves and downing tools.
Any player worth his salt, taking Sancho as a perfect example will realise that in Germany you have one team to get past to win championships, and possibly cups. Come to Utd and now best cast scenario - you have 2 teams miles better than you , and you have several other teams at least on a par with you so winning the title is a pipe dream, and theres 3-4 other teams than can have a good run at the domestic cups.
Also he'd be leaving a team that finished 13 points behind for one who finished 33 behind, which one would you think might be the easier to close.

Think Sancho would be off his nut to join Utd. Stick it out in Dortmund for another season, and next season the world and his brother are going to be chasing M'bappe, Sancho is likely to be first reserve for everyone who DOESNT get Mbappe. He will have his choice of where to go as opposed to going to a team frankly going nowhere fast and finding himself stuck there for the next 4-5 years

Dortmunds model is buy up and coming stars, pay them well, improve them and then sell them. They didn't budge on Demebeles price and they can't budge here or they will have to budge on Halland next year. The entire model is on the line, as always Utd will end up paying the full amount.

Halland has a release fee which is very reasonable but your point is nonetheless correct.

If Man U are ever going to challenge for the title again they're going to have to start getting more value for their money. And the start of that has to be losing their reputation of caving on their main targets. They should walk away on Sancho, then walk away on a few more and only pay what they feel a players true value is, like we had to do to lose the reputation we had. Its painful for a while but the only alternative is keep being held to ransom while trying to compete with clubs getting far more value for their money. Also, being linked with 200 players every summer doesn't help either, another thing they could learn from us on.

We had supporters losing their shit because we wouldn't instantly meet Bayerns price. That was as champions with a bullet proof manager. Utd have a manager, CEO and owners with zero credibility, their main rivals are the best team in the world and they are loaded, as much as its the right thing to do I think its impossible for them to go down that route right now.

City appeared to be heading down that road, they walked away from Maguire and now Koulibaly but then spent 65m on the kid from Benfica. For the model to work they needed to abandon the search altogether but they don't have a manager like ours. What it does show is the balls Klopp had to wait on Virgil, I was screaming for anyone that could head a corner away (Shane Duffy definitely wasn't mentioned by me) when the initial transfer exploded.

If any team can go down that route Bob,it's them. As you say,our fans are just as demanding as theirs and we did it because our owners had the balls and our manager had the balls and backing to do the right thing. Their owners are already hated, they don't care and their CEO does exactly what they tell him to do or he stops being their CEO. Solksjaer will also do what he's told because where's he going? He's probably a year left anyway,2 tops but if it's done right you get a manager in who understands it's the way to go and give him the backing he needs to make it work because even with that policy, they'll still easily be spending enough to get in the top 4.

The reason they won't is not because they're afraid of the reaction of the traditional fan base, at the end of every summer they're spitting feathers anyway. Every summer their spend is far lower than the media had them believe it would be so they're going to be angry. The reason they won't is because they want all the speculation surrounding the club for the social media presence, its a big factor in keeping their share price up. It's the same thing with blockbuster signings, great for publicity and social media presence which in turn drives advertising revenue and sponsorship. Being successful would do more, but it's not guaranteed and they're not willing to trade the guaranteed returns of what they're doing for potential bigger returns down the road, and it means the on pitch advantage they should be getting from being such a huge commercial entity,is being massively diluted.

Great move for him big club, champions league football, being reported no option to buy involved in the deal youd get the feeling they might feel he still has something there.

Butland has been shocking for a few years. Not sure he would be much of an upgrade on Adrian

He's getting on a bit but Ben foster might be an option. Can't be any worse than Adrian anyway.

Herbie Kane finalising medical at Barnsley ahead of a permanent move, too. Could make debut tomorrow against home-town club Bristol City. £1.25M & 15% sell on clause for #LFC included.

Cardiff City complete £1.2m Harry Wilson loan deal from Liverpool.

January transfer window has now become extremely important. There's no way Gomez and Matip will be able to stay injury free until Virgil is back so we could easily be looking at a scenario of playing a PL game with a CM and an inexperienced 18 year old as our CB pairing.
