Hi, Funny I also got an opportunity to visit the one in Blackrock, about a week before Christmas. Maybe you were unlucky if it was during the Christmas period as I had a different experience.... I thought the place was decent looking and better than those I've been in over England.... staff were friendly, checked with us if our food was ok, threw a few logs on the fire to keep it going etc. Food was OK, I got a chicken burger which was good, prices were good particularly if you wanted a pint thrown in. There seems to be promotions on certain days for curries and steaks on another day, which could prove good value (sorry, can't recall the price, but looked decent). Selection of beer was fine, I recognised at least a half dozen of the brands on tap (this was just after the row went public with Heiniken so I'm excluding Heiniken from what I recognised even though there were taps there for it). Prices were good, needless to say and the beer tasted fine, though I wasn't on the lash so it was a very limited sample. I left the one in Blackrock hoping they open one somewhere closer to where I live, I'd definitely be spending a bit of time there if they did.
Yeah decor wise and all it was grand Garrett, I just wouldn't be going out of my way to drink in one anyway, they're grand for a bit of cheap food but I find they aren't a place you would sit for a few pints
Hi, To be fair mate I wasn't there for a night on the pints so can't really speak about the atmosphere for example. That said, if your with your friends, you can have a good night anywhere and I'd imagine cheap drink would certainly help the night go well
Stink cheap beer combined with fill a gap cheap food in what will eventually turn into a messy atmosphere once everyone is full of alco pops and all you can drink lager. God knows there will come a day out where I will be glad of such an establishment and you can be sure I won't be complaining then, but the idea of being dragged to one of these gafs for hours on end really does not appeal to me.
U see, this is the thing with these places. If u go for a nite out with friends/family, Wetherspoons is not the sort of venue u will go to. They will do well on passin trade, people lookin for cheap/decent grub, and maybe a pint or 2. People will not spend a Sunday session in a Wetherspoons imho. To me, they are more of a restaurant with the option to get a cheap beer, if u like. Let them at it. Publicans and The Vintners of ireland, hav had it too good, for so long, is it any wonder there up in arms bout the arrival?
I know what you mean, and if they result in more competitive prices from surrounding businesses and in more money being spent in the country, that's obviously a good thing. And you are right, they're not the kind of places that are intended to have an all day customer, more that there is constant turnover in, and again, there's nothing wrong with that. Unfortunately I can foresee a situation where certain mates of mine insist on spending an entire evening there and I suppose I'm just not looking forward to it!
Neither would i mate. Im not sure what the 1s that are already operatin do, regardin showin racing/sports, or even have Tvs, but i just cant see a WS venue having live music or the likes. We'll wait and see.
Yea you have to imagine it's a place that's built to basically shake you upside down by the ankles and when your pockets are empty you can head off! No distractions, drink your pint and get another one.
Just seeing this now. I've never tasted Beamish; is it really no different to Guinness? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
