Interesting read about scouting at LFC and other clubs. http://www.blueprintforfootball.com...er&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Buffer&m=1
What a read, thanks a million for posting that mate. Very interesting comments about Comolli. Also Moyes as well. I think I will have to get the book.
Not a bad read on the transfer committee, and how it has an important role in the future of the club. http://www.thisisanfield.com/2014/01/liverpool-need-transfer-committee/
I think there's a bit much made of the committee Surely all clubs have some version of this whether it be lead scouts or whatever Not sure why we hear so much about ours to be honest
They've done ok up to this summer in that there remit was to find value with limited resources. Theyve signed some gems and we haven't been burned financially on any of the poor signings. This summer is the litmus test for them they had the funds and champions league football. So all excuses out the window. To be honest its not looking great Lovren, Markovich and Balotelli have all had poor starts. But 9 league games is way too early to be writing them off.
They did a mighty job of making 120 million disappear. If they did that in other walks of life wed be suggesting they be locked up.
To be quite frank, I think the Transfer Committee have been little more than crap over the past 18mths. Infact, the only reason I'm giving them the credit of saying they have been "little more than crap" is because I can't entirely prove who is making the final decision on signings, if it were the Committee then I'm simply say they have been crap. For all of the signings, what players have actually proven to be worth buying to date ?
I would'nt go as far to call them total failures, but there success rating is quiet low in comparrasion to what they bought,so far imo Sturridge , Coutinho, possibly Moreno, Lallana,Manquillo, Can, Markovic could be judged as success, the rest could only be described as failures. That percentage is very worrying and shows this system clearly is'nt working and needs to be reviewed. It was quiet easy for the lads from city to be made look good as they were shopping in a different shop to what FSG want them to shop in, so on has to ask is it them or FSG's system thats to blame. If you look at what other clubs bought for lesser money than us and are now doing well again questions have to asked.
Sturridge has been the only outstanding success as a transfer under Rodgers era, Coutinho to a lesser extent but he is struggling to hold down a place in the team and is very inconsistent , Allen has been ok, awful last 2 games though. Mingelot Borini Sakho Aspas Alberto Assidi the manager seems to want rid off, balotelli lovren are shit and have been all there career. There's a few of this summers signings who may come good, but while they may be decent players, in no market is lallana and Markovic £45m well spent. Time will tell but like what was highlighted at the time it's not a very hard job been a scout for a team with a blank cheque
The only players we've signed for the first team since their arrival that I'd never heard of before was Assaidi and Origi and I'm hardly an expert. What sort of scouting is that? I thought these were supposed to be looking further than that? Their scouting brilliance has been mostly players they know personally and they know they can get like ex Man City players were they used to work Sturridge, Toure and Balotelli. You'd hardly need scouts for them though
What top club have signed unknown/unheard of players that have gone into there first team recently ? 3 ex city players out of how many signings?
But is that not our aim? What was Dave Fallows and Barry Hunter brought in to do? We're not paying the same premiums per player as our rivals so we need to rely heavier on scouting. What players have been scouted for the first team that we couldn't have gotten without them? If I was Rodgers I would be expecting them to bring me a list of players I don't know who might make an impact on the team. If they're players Rodgers already knows then what's the point of the scouts. And of all the names mentioned I only didn't know Origi and Assaidi so If I knew all of the rest then you can be sure Rodgers knew them too. Regarding ex Man City players, you can hardly say that it's a big coincidence that we've signed 3 ex Man City players and that's where Fallows and Hunter used to work? We've signed players this summer we knew we were guaranteed to sign IMO. Maybe Fallows and Hunt were brought in to rebuild the youth academy I don’t know
To manage our transfer policy and extract as much value from our limited funds. Up till this summer any small hits taken on the likes of Aspas etc would be covered with the sales of Borini Assaidi et al. As I've said before this summer will be the litmus test as they had a bigger budget and champions league football to attract players.
How do you feel they've done up until now having seen the summers transfers perform? They should start looking further than Match of the Day I think
I'm sure these lads will be taking a flight out to Boston at the end of the season ,if the summer signings keep performing the same way till May.
If FSG are prepared to even give this committee to the end of the season, then I'd lose respect for FSG as businessmen ! At least half of them should be removed now, on the back of their failures to date - with the other half (likely to include BR) given some more time, given other club considerations aside from bad selection of new players.
The start the new guys have made has been underwhelming to say the least but too many are stating as fact that we wasted £120m. Can, Origi, Moreno, and Manquillo account for a third of the spend, only a mad man would say that money is anything even close to resembling written off. Lalanna would ideally have cost 5m or 6m less but he didn't, not a massive deal at the end of the day. Balotelli and Lovren have started shite and could easily be 30m down the drain (I don't think it will but you can't blame anyone that is seriously worried) but its still very early despite of how poor they have been. Lambert was almost universally agreed to be a no brainer so nobody can have any issues with him. Rafa has been gone 4 years and only 3 members of the squad are anything like regulars now, somewhere some how someone is buying players that has us within a whisker of being champions and currently as good as all the other contenders for top 4. If everything is still as bleak come January then its fair came on the transfer committee/scouts but for now its way to early.
