However this made it into the public is how they've found out about it too I'd say and once it did they've reported it as it wasn't reported to them during their audit. Finding €100k in a set of accounts like the FAI's is next to impossible especially if the directors and finance team are willingly trying to conceal it.

Auditors have gotten away with a lot in this country, the issues with the banks were scandalous that they weren't accountable for any of that but this is all on the FAI, their CEO and particularly their board of directors who are charged with Governance of the organisation.

Like I've said Mick I'm only talking about one organisation and none of what you're talking about is possible here. Quite frankly being hamstrung with our rigid restrictions has actually cost us in the past whereby we have to follow protocols to the letter of the law when a small workaround would have saved huge time and money but perhaps that's the price that we have to pay to ensure things are done right.

You might be 100% correct Ed but I'd be wating to see what else comes out in these investigations before I'd be absolving anybody from all wrongdoing.

I know Mick, I was only pointing it out because most people are going to be hopping mad that the external auditor has now jumped on this but it is very plausible that they had no knowledge of this in any capacity until it was made public and the impossibility in finding such a transaction in an audit especially as it was paid and returned in the same period is next to zero. But like you've said it is prudent to await all findings before any conclusions are reached.

One thing that fell out of the banking scandal and the failure of the auditors to notice any foul play is that auditors sign accounts now in a personal capacity. It used to be that accounts would have EY on the accounts but after 2010 the regulations change so you'll actually have a "Joe Bloggs" for EY which at least gives some accountability.

Sure the treasurer or honoury one says last week he thought the FAI only had 1 bank account when they had 24 .

A bigger issue I think that will come is questions about money owed to clubs mainly Bray & Dundalk . I wonder was that money spent and paid when they could .
