It's an annual gig for all of them really, isn't it ?

I reckon it's almost cartel like price fixing, the way Sky etc. all hike up their prices each year.

Broadband seems to have gone up in price a lot over the last 18 months, which annoys me given most of the providers have not improved their services over the same period (they advertise up to 100mbs, but most people I talk to or read about online don't even seem to be able to get download speeds of even 30mbs, on a consistent basis etc).

Just have to haggle like hell each time your contract expires, to try and get the best deal you can to offset the price hikes.

If you want to ring customer care and ask them to move you to pay as you go you could sign back up to the new ones above. Otherwise I could do it but it’s a bit more hassle, pm me if your interested

My girlfriends iphone is gone kaput and she is currently on sim only with meteor. We have tv and broadband with eir. Should she just add a mobile to the contract? She doesn't want to spend big on a new device and was going to sign up to a contract.

Yes best option would be to add a mobile to the contract, if you want to pm her mobile number and eir account details i can look into it for you if you wish?

Personally, I'd always go for an Android handset.

They offer far more flexibility in terms of what you can install on them etc.

Depends what you have had before, i had an iphone 6s, got a samsung s8 plus and hated it so went back to iphone 8, but its just down to personal preference.

There's a new huawei p smart that just came out that has very decent specs.

Got iphone 8 last week, didn't notice any difference on the last iphone 6s except the battery.. The battery is really good, get a day and a half without charging.

I've a OnePlus 5 and couldn't say enough good things about it to be honest, used iPhones for years and swapped over to a Nexus a few years back and just haven't seen any big difference with Android over what I could get with the iPhone that would justify me going back to Apple and spending significantly more money. The only problem with the OnePlus is that you'll have to buy it outright and it's a €500 phone so it's not always an option for everyone even if it's a very worthwhile saving in the long run compared to paying off a mobile phone over the course of a contract.
