My expectations from last summer and this window were not the same. Good luck to him.
I love the way you phrased that Lionel, carefully causing little or no offence without spelling out what your expectations actually were
Regardless of your expectations or my own, I think the lads at LFC continued to have the same expectation on getting most of what we paid for for him back, and that's why he's still a Liverpool player.
Obvioiusly, there's a slim chance that he'll do ok in the new league he's joined and that might help him get a move in the summer, so I suppose it's worth hoping for once he's not costing us much in wages or loyalty bonuses etc. along the way.
Any idea on what the terms of the current loan deal are, are his full wages covered for example ?
Liverpool's Lazar Markovic makes awful start to his loan spell at Anderlecht
by Glen Durrant
If he wasn't already, Lazar Markovic is well on his way towards becoming one of Liverpool's worst ever signings.
Brendan Rodgers spent £20 million(!) to bring the Serbia international to Anfield back in 2014 but he's been nothing short of terrible ever since.
Markovic made 34 appearances in all competitions for the Reds in his debut season, which was followed by an unsuccessful loan spell at Fenerbahce in Turkey.
A hamstring injury saw him return to Liverpool prematurely but further embarrassment was to come.
In the summer of 2016, Markovic agreed to join Benfica's city rivals, Sporting Lisbon, on a season-long loan.
But six months later in the January transfer window, the 23-year-old was recalled by Jurgen Klopp and sent to Hull City instead, where he spent the remainder of the season.
Then, in the summer of 2017, Klopp opted against loaning out Markovic for a fourth time and decided to keep him for the current season.
That didn't work out either. Last month, Markovic was shipped out on loan once again to Anderlecht in the Belgian First Division A.
Markovic doesn't have a future at Liverpool, that much has become clear, yet he's already encountered problems at Anderlecht that just about sum up the state of his career right now.
According to Anderlecht Online, Markovic produced 'abysmal' results in physical tests upon his arrival and will now go on a special fitness programme involving extra sessions.
This is despite the winger having so much free time at Liverpool this season. He may not have been playing, but there's no excuse for him being unfit.
Anderlecht also have themselves to blame because they signed Markovic without completing a medical, but it's being reported he will be unavailable for around six weeks. How embarrassing.
Manager Hein Vanhaezebrouck said last week: "I think we will be without him for four or five weeks. He has a very big gap and is conditional not yet ready to play.
"So there is a lot of work to be done, but we hope that he can make rapid progress. He can play in different positions, but he has to get up to speed quickly."
I presume we pickup his salary while he is sitting the loan out?
What a joke. What a shocking signing he was. Makes Downings signing look like great business which says it all really
Says a lot about the lad , been so unfit
I know he hasn’t been getting game time but surely he should be fitter than reported
It's very difficult to look any further than Balotelli when we talk about our worst ever signing, but this fella sure is proving a challenger at this stage alright.
Remind me who signed both of them again ?
Why hasn’t he played in any of the 2 games so far .
Honestly think he would be better playing in Italy
Not going to argue about not so super Mario being the worst, but God we've signed some puddings over the years.
Bruno Cheyrou (the new Zidane)
Milan Jovanovic (almost gets a pass for his you tube clip)
Paul flippin Konchesky
I still pretend Julian Dicks was just a nightmare I had.
All those horror stories just make it all the sweeter to have a manager that knows who will fit, who he wants and wont accept "fillers"
Was he not training with the u21.. klopp wants him gone and was open about thattoo
Thought he was back for pre season with the rest
I'm not in the business of slagging off players, I just never saw anything in this guy. People were saying he needed time, there was a worldy in there etc. I just honestly never saw it. And sometimes you think, maybe I'm missing something here, or what do other people see that I am missing, I never thought it with him. I couldn't believe we paid 20 million for him, there was nothing before he came to us that justified that price and he did nothing to justify it after. Just a baffling signing.
For a brief period of about 3/4 games back the season we signed him he looked like a proper player, can't remember the game but there was one entire half of football when he dominated entirely from the wing but he got swapped inside in the second half. I can't remember what happened after that, think there was a mix of suspensions and injuries at a time when he looked to be improving and then I really don't know what happened him between then and now but it feels like it's been 3/4 years since that happened. His shot onto the crossbar from some sort of ridiculously contrived position will have to be worth the £20 million we paid for him.
I think it's safe to say he's going to be disappearing out of the club fairly soon.
How long has he left on his contract ?
... because that's most likely how much longer he's going to be a Liverpool player, I suspect.
Expires at the end of the season.
Lazar scores the 1st goal against Blackburn
Was a great finish to be fair
Haven't we been here before with players who have not been able to break into the first team ?
.. they have a couple of decent pre-season games and lift expectations / hope etc.
.... I don't think he's got the quality or ability to be a LFC player, probably not a Top 10 PL team player and possibly not even a PL player at all.
I don't think many are reading too much into his pre season so far. There are plenty of managers who'd just bomb him out because he won't be much use to us but Klopp gives his squad the preseason they need to prepare for a season, even if they are likely to leave. Players respect that type of class.
Klopp has a lot of players to consider, so I can't see how he can be expected to give them all reasonable game time and for me, I'd have thought the first thing you do is cut out those who won't be featuring in the coming season... to give others who will feature, or those who have never had a chance to show what they have, a bit more opportunity in preseason.
