Bands or artists that you like that you might get a bit of stick over or be embarrassed about etc. I'll start off with Wham,A-ha and The Backstreet Boys(saw them in concert).I'm actually not embarrassed but I do get stick in work over my music tastes.
Duran Duran.Had tickets to see them in the old Sydney Football Stadium in 2004 but had to swerve it due to getting a job in the outback.I once went to a Mary Black concert and a Suicidal Tenancies gig on consecutive nights! I also listen to Tears for Fears and more or less anything from the 80s really.
I've the Mary Black,The Collection album I love it. For some reason that also reminded me I'm a big Carpenters fan
Back when we were a Champions League regular I used to get so nervous in the hours leading up to kick off that I would put The Collection cd and it would help me relax! That reminds me I must dust it off for next season!!!
Went to see Pet Shop Boys in the point night finished my leaving Put Duran Duran,Wham,Erasure in the mix also love a bit of the 80,s Throw the bee gees in for good measure
I listen to all sorts of music and enjoy it for what it is, don't feel guilty about any of it, could be AC/DC, The All Saints, The Dubliners, Frank Sinatra or Pavarotti. Probably much easier for me to list the couple of types of music or individual singers / bands that I don't like really. I'm using Shazam to recognise stuff that I like when I hear it on the radio and building a folder with all of the tracks in it, some day I'll put it all on my phone or something and then have it to listen to for years to come.... Interesting, Shazam keeps recognising that track as The Jacksons - Can You Feel It (now that I listen to it a bit more, the actual basic music does sound quite like it I suppose).
Ha, You've just reminded me.. I've an old 7" picture disc floating around for the Thompson Twins, think I got it when I was about twelve I think they've done a tad more than just taken the odd "sample" tbf mate ... first time I've ever had Shazam get a track wrong, tried it a few times with different parts of the track but same everytime - simply won't accept that it's not the Jacksons, hence I say that I think they did a little more than just "sample" it (not that I've any objection, still like both songs etc.)
I think the term sampling is used whenever you take one song and turn it into another one mate. Some are lightly sampled and some more heavily. This one is obviously heavily sampled.
Plenty of questionable decisions made in the past when buying tapes or CDs (Bros and Spice Girls) but not so many recently. I can't stand pop music or most of what would be in the charts (Do they still call ot the charts?) I do love Hot and Cold by Katy Perry though. Can't explain why.
Yes, thats how I also undestand it also Mick, I was playing on the term in the context of what a sample by definition means .. i.e. a "small" part of something, where that song has taken a hell of a lot of the Jackson's track and hence why Shazam is struggling etc.
I remember the first time I saw Shazam in operation, blew my mind. One of the lads had the first IPhone and the competition the DJ was running in the local of name the singer was up to about 80 cuid. The same song had been going for weeks,it was Billy Joel singing an Elvis song but you'd never have known who it was just by listening. The DJ knew we must of cheated but had no idea how.We bought a couple of bottles of champagne out of the winnings
