Personally think it would be a mistake to let him leave We signed him at 25 on a five year contract, so we never really seen it him as player to sell on with much income back from our modest £25m out lay. Id like to see him be given a 3 year contract this season with a modest pay increase , say from £75k to £100k and hopefully he is happy with that
Agreed. After Hendo, Gini is probably the next in line that has gone through this come back over the past few years. From Europa League to PL, CL and World Champions. He should be kept on, and given a pay rise.
I agree with everything here. But if you could pop into hr in my job in January when they are doing payrises and bonuses that be fantastic. A modest 33% payrise would go down well with the new baby on the way
Wonder if Koeman had a word in his ear? Barca needs rebuilding and Gini has been one of Koeman's go to guys for the Netherlands. Wouldn't imagine Klopp would stand in his way IF that option opened up to him, and it'd have the added extra of opening up a spot in the midfield squad for Thiago? Have to say though, much as I'd like to have Thiago, not sure I want him at the cost of Gini. Think he's one of the most under-rated players we have.
Reading Melissa's piece on Thiago today all but confirms the clubs interest in him but rather than it being about transfer numbers it seems more about squad harmony. Basically someone will have to make way Gini being the player I reckon but who knows. Wonder if Edward's and FSG are leaving this one up to Jurgen
Barca is a toxic club at the moment. If Messi leaves, there will be a mutiny amongst the fans. Whilst I can see the attraction for any player to go there, this is one of the worst times to do so.
Totally agree, Gini is a great player in a pressurized game, always keeps his cool. Love his temperament. Longer this goes on, the more likely it is he will make way.
Still can't understand why contract talks aren't started. I know covid etc, but surely would of been started Christmas time?
13 goals in Wijnaldum’s last 20 international appearances and 8 of the Netherlands’ last 13 goals. Like wise when he was with Newcastle 1 in 4, 1 in 3 with PSV. For me he's easily in the top 20 midfield players in the world I couldn't name 10 better outside of Liverpool. Really hope the club push the boat out to get him to renew.
According to press reports yesterday he was offered a new 3 year contract before the international break.
Hopefully he does, but cant help thinking he wants a change of scenery for whatever reason, most likely to earn a big last payday...he'd be crazy to go to the desperately in decline Barca. Koeman wont last long there anyways if that's the only attraction there
I don't know who has the job of putting these random stats together but I see Gini has won more games in his first 200 competitive matches for Liverpool than any other player in the history of the club, 133 wins. Alan Kennedy is second with 131. Amazing that someone took the time to check things like that
Incredible stat in fairness. Alisson must have a very high percentage rate however many games he has played wirh us.
Alisson has only about 100 appearances I'd say. In fact I just googled it, transfermarket says he has 98 appearances with the Reds. It is a great stat for Wijnaldum. If only he scored a few more goals like he does for the Nederlands
