How does it work if he got a serious injury playing for Leipzig, could Chelsea walk away from the deal? If its locked in no matter what then its poor form not seeing the season out but if it's not then I can understand his position.
free Maybe my GAA upbringing but that's not good enough either way in my book. Whatever about careers wages etc surely ye owe the club and more importantly team mates that much. Makes it easier that we swerved him in my book.
Completely understand that line of thought, but to look at it another way, clubs will let go of players that they no longer want, Jordan Ibe is a good example and I reckon Leipzig would do the same if they had an out of contract player they'd no use for. They're getting between 50 and 60m for a player they bought for less than 10m so it's not like he's leaving them high and dry. I honestly think 90% of his team mates would act no differently in the same situation,as would probably 90% of our players if we'd done a deal for them in a similar situation. I think the fans have a right to feel hard done by,but overall if we're going to cut ourselves off from players who'd act like he is,we'd imo be shopping in a tiny market.
I probably didn't make it clear(which I seem to be excelling at on here lately)but my main point is I don't think what Werner is doing makes him a bad apple we were right to avoid.
But isn't Champions league in August when he should be a Chelsea player officially in July or am.i missing something or will he still be a Leipzig player ?
He can stay with Leipzig if he wants,FIFA have put in place measures where players can finish the season but it has to be by mutual consent.
Aren't we turfing Clyne out the door at the end of June? Werner is free to make his own decisions here, Leipzig would suit themselves in the opposite situation.
I agree. DISCLAIMER: The views expressed within this post are not necessarily my own and are subject to change without notice.
He had a clause we could have activated in April, all things going to plan the season would have ended 6 weeks after that. He would have had 6 weeks to pick up an injury in normal times so I don't get it. Same thing with a couple out of contract player's, the lad at Charlton in particular I can't get my head around. He won't play in case he gets injured, he has the same 9 games to play that his original contract covered.
Is he worrying about getting injured and the deal falls through? A lot of the college athletes over here pull out of their bowl games etc. cause of the risk to losing millions of $. They leave their teammates high and dry but I can see why
Crazy to walk away from a champions league quarter final in case you might get injured. Even if he were to get injured he still has 2 years left on his RB contract that he signed at the start of the season. I completely get the college athlete that has low income needing the money.
That's the thing though mate, they were contracted to play those games originally, now they have no contractual obligation and are in a position now to manage the risk. I'd like to think if I was in Werners position I'd finish out the season although I dont think anybody could say for definite they would unless they've found themselves in that position. If I was in Lyle Taylor's position I reckon I'd do exactly what he's doing. 30 years of age, this will probably be his only big move.
Taylor's contract had finished so while I don't agree it's easy to see and understand his thinking. Werner's contract hasn't finished, he can't register for Chelsea for a couple of months at least, during that period is registered to RB and should be contractually obliged to play, the Bundesliga should all ready be over so what difference is there to league games and CL games? If injury ended his career today he would walk away a multi millionaire, it's greed as far as I'm concerned.
As far as I can make out,Werners release clause runs up until the 15th of July which means he's free to walk away on that date but I'm open to correction. Any extension has to be voluntarily agreed by both parties which is bad news for Leipzig here but overall it's good news for clubs who aren't forced to keep on players they dont want. I'm not going to argue it's not greed on his part, but I would argue the earlier he gets to Chelsea the better chance he has of hitting the ground running. Also when you consider it seems likely he would have chosen us and less money above Chelsea if we'd of given him that chance, I'd be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Ryan Fraser is the latest to say he's done once his contract finishes and it's hard for Bournemouth to take the moral high ground there. They're letting Ibe go,they got Frasier cheap after he ran down his contract and he asked to leave last summer but they decided to keep him.
City boss Guardiola said: "We are ready. I have a lot of confidence and trust with the people that we will be allowed to play the Champions League, because we want to be on the field during these years. "On July 13 we will know the resolution, hopefully, for the club - all the workers, players and everyone here, staff - to try to continue growing up as a club in the next years." Will somebody think of the children Pep trying to look like they're one of his worries is commendable here
Reckon it will be cut to 1 year ban. Heard in a pod recently that there is a technicality with some of these dates used in the case that has given City some leverage. They would probably take one year out as players and manager would stay. 2 years and couldn’t see players wanting to hang around
