I know it's on a much smaller scale but I've heard good reports about the gaa go service, proves it can be done.

Well I don't have contempt for golf fans Ed,I just don't think keeping the cost of watching it down should be a consideration when we can make football cheaper to watch, and in that sense I don't really care if the price of watching it or other sports go up is a consequence of it(again I dont think it will).I also did say that to jump through the hoops needed to make it a reality, the government could insist on some kind of measure to keep ticket prices down, but either way more money for clubs won't mean ticket prices rising at any faster a rate than they will anyway, so football fans will still be better off over all.

The UFC and the NFL do something similar, probably the NBA also?

As long as they're exclusively football fans, PL fans at that you're right. If you'll need a new sub to watch La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, CL you might end up down a few bob overall. But that's not the PL's concern.

I just cant see a way how the current channels that carry PL football, don't reduce their prices more than what fans would be paying for that football, and still get enough subscribers to make it worthwhile.

Sorry Babbs what I'm saying is that if all these other leagues follow suit, as they certainly would, if it's a success for the PL you'd end up with all of them offering their product direct to market.

Say they did and could get half the price in Britain and Ireland what the PL charge, and we'll use 8 pounds as the hypothetical PL charge. That would work out at 20 pounds a month for those 4 leagues.Anything ball park those prices would still be far cheaper than what it costs to have access to those leagues now,and that's before you factor in its more games, that very few would watch all those leagues anyway and would be happy to pick and choose to bring that cost down again.

The next set of TV right for the UK will be intertesting to see if Amazon increase or decrease their football content. That package was bought by Premier Sports for Ireland.

Simon Jordan's comments for me are much to simplistic but they make for a great soundbite. No single broadcaster in my opinion could gamble on an investment in rights for one single league to the value of the figures he is talking about. Coverage in foreign markets for it to be attractive has to involve a local angle for every market.

I'll be very surprised if Eleven Sports retain 'La Liga' next season which is the 1st effort we have seen at providing rights for football in this market through a non-traditional service.

The 3pm kick off blockage is government
I think the experience of eleven sports debunks @edcarroll02 arguments. I like Spanish football or Juve v Milan as much as the next man but not in a million years would I pay for it. Seemingly I'm not alone or they wouldn't be on their knees.
Would I pay €8 to watch every Liverpool game, too right I would.

Bobby it's easier to say it debunks the idea in it's entirety than it is just my points. The problem with quick soundbites is that they never cover off the vast multitides of problems that they will have to face. The PL presently get to sell their product for straight Cash with no infrastructure for broadcasting or mass collection of small fees for individual subscribers.

I think we will see a move similar to what you're suggesting in the future but I imagine it will for the foreseeable future complement the current tv packages. I know it all looks so simplistic but the infrastructure required to deliver it and the costs of that are probably quite unimaginable! A current player in the market is more likely to run with it than the PL are to try themselves.

I do like the idea of a kind of system where you could just pay for whatever you want though it would probably cost me more overall as I've a fairly broad interest in sports.

I don't think it will happen, there are too many obstacles. I'd prefer to have the option of every Liverpool game and the top sport I do watch but I stand over the statement that the numbers woudlnt add up if individual sports had to fend for themselves.

Seen an interview with pep this morning and he talks about winning the league, last week I seen one with de bruyne and he was the same.
May seem like confidence to them but it comes across as arrogance. Can only compare it to the dubs and Jim Gavin, he never entertains any talk of winning the all ireland.
Sure leave them to it, we'll see what happens

I'm not a big gambler but Utd were 4/6 this morning away to Fulhum, does that not seem very long odds to be offering?

They've also paid out already as the game went 2-0
