Petty from sterling . Apparently they made up after the game but the videos that circulated on social media of the incident have seemed to have rattled him. Loved when Gomez did that and when Robbo pushed walker. That kind of stuff is no harm imo.
England forward Raheem Sterling will not play in the Euro 2020 qualifier against Montenegro on Thursday "as a result of a disturbance in a private team area", the Football Association has announced. The Manchester City player, 24, was involved in an on-field argument with Liverpool defender Joe Gomez, 22, during the Reds' 3-1 Premier League victory at Anfield on Sunday. The Press Association reports the pair were again involved in an exchange on Monday. "Unfortunately the emotions of yesterday's game were still raw," said England boss Gareth Southgate. "One of the great challenges and strengths for us is that we've been able to separate club rivalries from the national team. "We have taken the decision to not consider Raheem for the match against Montenegro on Thursday. My feeling is that the right thing for the team is the action we have taken. "Now that the decision has been made with the agreement of the entire squad, it's important that we support the players and focus on Thursday night."
How did it all get out so quickly? You'd think the England camp would just say sterling picked up a knock and was going back to his club for treatment or something... Sterling seemed really wound up yesterday... Great to see..
Well this seems quite insane that this is getting so much attention, two footballers have an argument and there's a media frenzy going on. Was Southgate right to send him home over something so trivial? It's nearly created a bigger story, I would have thought you'd get loads of these kinds of disagreements in a squad and you just bury it.
Has he been sent home? Also from reports it seems there was no argument at all. Joe Gomez went to put his arm around him and Raheem Sterling grabbed him by the throat. Childish.
Withdrawn from consideration for the game coming up was what I heard this morning but my point being that it seems that Southgate has made a big public issue out of this when it should have just been cleared up in house. There's papers running live updates on the whole thing now as if this is some huge issue.
He hasn't been sent home, dropped for upcoming match but available for the next one. In many ways it's perfect for Southgate, it's the most competitive position in the squad and he gets to show some authority by removing a player that they can get by without for this game.
Yes always going to be in todays world. Reading from what happened there now and completely childish from Sterling. Chip and shoulder.
Anybody who's been around football dressing rooms will know that hierarchies develop. It can be due to seniority, experience, personality or how instrumental you are to the team but players are generally aware of where they rank. Most of the time it's not a big deal, especially in squads that are harmonious and is often turned into a positive with those at the top expected to lead and look after those still trying to find their way in the dressing room. Theres no way if Sterling had that incident with Harry Kane on Sunday that theres any incident in that canteen. That he did go for a player far less secure in his place in that squad was shitbag, bullying behaviour and Southgate was spot on to make a big issue of it. He takes squad morale very seriously, has been in England squads as a player where toxicity was a factor and knows the pressure the less experienced players face. He needs to show lads that are trying to make their way that he's committed to giving them an environment where that type of shit wont be tolerated. Keeping it behind closed doors isn't really an option in this day and age because it's going to leak, every player in every premier league squad will have known by this morning what happened.
Totally agree, there have been enough failures in the england camp caused by bullshit behaviour. Southgate 100% right in addressing this. This is the england camp, we are one team, one squad, anyone taking it back to the goldenballs days can think again. Message sent, move on.
Henderson rang both players and acted as peacemaker. The only question now is how does Kane work this to take the credit? I'm sure his PR team are working in overdrive as we speak
Cant believe international football going ahead hasnt been under stronger criticism with everything going on at the moment let alone the way league schedules are this season. Unfortunately Uefa wont let their precious new tournament of glorified friendlies be called a hault on without it being last resort.
Have said it since the return. Its madness. Players flying from all over the world. Sometimes to hotspots and then all returning and congregating together
