    Folks,

I'm hoping to get a patio laid down soon and so I'm going to buy a gas bbq.

I've never had one before so I'd be obliged for any tips or recommendations. I believe Weber are the mutt's nuts but they are €600 - €700.

It would mainly be used for a family of four and I don't mind spending €300 or thereabouts.

    All comments welcome!

The Aldi one is a dual fuel so doesn't suit unfortunately.

Where did you get that one Liverpool-law?

    Hi,

We've a Weber, bought it about ten years ago and it's still going strong.

    Positives:
    - Easy to clean
    - Parts of it can be folded up to save space and it's on wheels

    Negatives:
    - Flavours from the food are nothing like a traditional wood / coal burning BBQ

If I were to go back in time, I'd build a nice brick work BBQ out in the garden and make it a bit of a feature.

If you are dead set on getting a Gas BBQ, maybe see if you can get a Weber second hand, in the absence of Gerry being able to help you out.

Got it in B&Q DG but that was 3 years ago, don't know if they still stock them. Two good heavy grill plates and a griddle plate on it. The left hand side has a single gas burner too.

My mates job no longer sell them
    Sorry chief

Make sure you get a decent cover or store it in your shed as the weather ruins them if not stoed correctly

Flavour is not the same from gas ones as real coal ones in fairness
But gas ones are also sound

Herbs spices and marinades all enhance flavour also on either type of bbq

The amount you spend should really depend on how much you intend to use it

You're right, nothing beats the real thing. Unfortunately with the weather the way it is here, a real bbq can be a bit hit and miss, takes more time to heat up, you can have times when they don't light up properly and half the coals are hot etc. Between showers at least there is instant heat with the gas and you are still outside (usually with a beer)...
