I hate saying this and it breaks my heart but can't see suarez staying but Why buy another striker when we have Borini, Sturridge, Couthino,Aspas, Luis Alberto. I know the latter two are behind the striker but can't imagine if we were to keep Suarez we would buy someone else in that position. I know people will say it is competition & it is a long season but surely if we were to keep Suarez that money would be well spent somewhere else. We would have 6 players competing up top & the you can throw Sterling in the mix which makes it 7. I just hope I am completely wrong
Not saying you are wrong and I could be just clutching at straws but you should have 2 players for every position so in the 4-3-3 Rodgers likes to play he would need 6 for the front 3. Also despite their promise, Sterling and Ibe still need to be introduced gradually at that age. Look at Micky Owen, effectively finished by 26.
Don't think Alberto or Couthino would qualify as strikers so if we get this Costa lad & keep Suarez thats 4 strikers you look at Citey or Utd all have 3/4 class strikers always need options from the bench if things are'nt going well. Always good to have this, also Costa looks more of a winger than a out & out striker.
Could be all a load of shite anyway, but just IF, and I mean IF, we sign this fella then i dont see why people are saying it means Suarez is leaving. A big signing and a signal of intent might just be what it takes to convince Suarez that he should stick around for another season and see if we can hit top 4. Of course whether we should really have to be convincing him of the likes is another matter entirely.
My think on the signing of Costa is that it could mean Downings days are numbered . Left Side would be : Costa or Sterling Right Side would :Sturrigde or Aspas or Borini Middle would be : Suarez or Sturrigde . So this would highlight Stewart Downing could be sold or loaned out .
Makes sense on paper but Downing did say the other week that Rodgers told him he would be staying. Things change in football but I wouldn't like to think a manager would lie to a player like that (assuming Downing's version is correct which I suspect it is).
That was said around the time we tried to sign Henrik Mkrtchyan maybe if we got him then Downing would have got another year . To me it has to be a case of Downing being sold because I can't see him getting game time ahead of the players I mentioned .
Think downing has a role to play at the club as he can also slot into a midfield role if needed. Probably 5 or 6th choice in there but I think he can add depth in there. Not going to be a starter but a useful squad player
We seem to be afraid of real competition at LFC. Keep adding quality to the squad it can only be a good thing. Having a coutinho, costa, aspas, Alberto, sturridge Borini to come off the bench is exactly wat we need. Keep it coming. CB next please
If we sign costa as it stands my team would be Mignolet Johnson toure agger Jose Lucas. Stevie Alberto Suarez. Costa. Coutinho We would have plenty of options on the bench aspas, sterling, sturridge,Henderson,Kelly, downing I'd loan out wisdom I'd sell borini back to Italy Allen I'm not sure of maybe keep as a squad player
........Mignolet Johnson.... Papa....Agger....Jose .........Lucas. Stevie ..........Coutinho Suarez. .. ...... Costa .............Sturridge ????
Is that competition to see which one of them can get suspended first ? ... jokes aside, this lad appears to be another "intense" player..... If THIS website is correct, then it was 7 assists and 10 goals for his team last season - doesn't seem a lot when you look at his price tag tbh. Having said that, I imagine he didn't get a lot of game time or opportunities with Falcao there for example .... so who knows, I guess time will tell.
Graham Hunter discussing Diego Costa on a Radio City show today. http://m.soundcloud.com/radiocity967/hunter-on-costa
Cheers Lionel. Always like listening to Hunter. Always comes across as very Knowledgeable. Interesting the way he talks about the Spainish Media. He also didn't mention anything about a buy out clause. He also mentions bidding for Solaldo too at 22 mill.
Watched a fair bit of la liga last season and remember this lad well as a strong physical brute who put himself around a bit. A lot of people seem to be saying he has great pace, but that was the one thing I thought he was lacking.... Someone on this thread mentioned he reminded them of kuyt - that's the best comparison I've seen so far.
Must admit, i would agree with this. Saw a lot of La Liga myself last season and he looks like a big strong guy with decent pace and quite tidy in front of goal. Dont get the negativity across all forums on this one - price maybe?
