I think the British govt tactics are intended to cause mayhem over a shorter period of time (in a crazy desire to build immunity), rather than trying to spread it Gary. Our efforts should mean a flatter curve over a longer timeframe but theirs will result in a much higher and shorter peak with the inevitable consequence of a significant number of deaths resulting from an overburdened health system.
Hard to get head around that but bringing it back to football, i really can’t see LFC City going ahead with or without supporters in 3 weeks time. Hope I am wrong as it should mean situation will have improved or that Uk government has lost its mind completely
Tuesdays meeting of Uefa and Thursdays meeting of the Premier league will tell a lot. If Uefa come out on Tuesday and say there are no plans as of now to completely call off the tournament then I think it will be difficult to finish the Premier league and all major leagues for that matter. They will be under pressure to do that however as its spread across Europe which would be an absolute disaster in terms of trying to control i. The announcement of the emergency Premier league meeting Thursday worries me slightly, I think they will now turn full circle and get ahead of the rest of the leagues and be more proactive than what they have been made out to be and move quickly with their development plans. You possibly will see 2 or 3 proposals that the Premier league teams and shareholders will have to vote for or against and one of these will be to end the season now as it is. Obviously this will bring with it many more problems in terms of the teams in 17th/18th and 5th/6th and so on. Liverpool however are probably the more straight forward option in that it will probably be agreed that they receive the title but for the fans and the players the gloss will no doubt be taken off it (imo anyway). 14 is the magic number of votes in terms of getting motions passed. Ideally the Euros get cancelled and the PL play it by ear until April and try and play it behind closed doors in the summer months however like I said I think they may come down a bit harder on the whole thing now.
It would bother me to be honest ed, just the utter bullshit you'd hear from other fans forever when this is one of the best league performances by any team in the history of the sport. Just one more game behind closed doors against Citeh would be lovely and no-one could spout the bollocks about it.
Liverpool isn't even a decision for PL to make - we have pissed the league. Imagine season is void and Sheff United were relegated? Leeds or WBA didn't come up Leicester etc there be lawsuits all over the shop
Very true but this is a football forum. Sky/BT won’t allow them to just jib the league. Don’t see why they would anyway. Just **** around with next years league when ever that starts.
Maybe there will be no relegation ,promotions from the Championship to go ahead with 2 extra teams in the PL next season. I can't see the league continuing. There will be 20000 cases in the UK in 6 weeks. Sad times but in the scheme of life it's small. YNWA
I'm starting to get worried. With non league seasons being declared null and void and the Premier league talking about difficult decisions ahead. Obviously there are more important things at play here like people staying alive but when it's safe to resume football we have to resume this season otherwise it will be extremely unfair on us.
They should just cancel the 2020/2021 season and finish this one off. But my gut says the league will be cancelled and we get the league. But there are more important things in life I suppose.
Some "source" at UEFA suposedly quoted as saying any league voided, will not be allowed entrants into european football the following season, and the league would lose a years co-efficient - easy claim "sources" told me this or that in the current environment I suppose. See Karen Brady has changed her tune and reckons now that "we will play into July if thats what it takes to finish our league
Following the money is the only way to untangle this, its less complicated the further down the leagues you go as the sums involved are much smaller but in the elite leagues the whole thing is a house of cards just waiting to topple over. Their cost bases don't make any sense in any normal world and requires their guaranteed money to keep flowing or they'd be bankrupt in a few weeks. So that only leaves one question, what do the money men want? Sky will quite clearly want the games played, imagine a frantic 4/5 week schedule to finish the league every team playing 2/3 games a week with all normal rules relaxed around broadcasting. The teams cannot afford to not fulfil contracts with the guys paying their bills.
I hadn't really got an opinion on what would be the best course of action for football once play resumed but the more I read the more it's becoming clear that finishing the season is what should happen.
Interesting discussion this afternoon on Newstalk. If the premier league isn’t finished the UK TV Broadcasters have to be paid £750m in penalties. Jesus the total figure will be huge when you take into account all the TV deals worldwide.
That's what I was kind of expecting, particularly when I heard the West Ham owner doing a U turn. Nothing like money to sharpen the minds.
That's before you throw in how Citys ban makes ManU favourites to take the last CL spot. Between the CL revenue and the commercial impact it would have on their sponsorship deals, its massively in their interests to finish the season. The PL's two biggest clubs and most influential in Europe are both desperate to get this season finished. Add that to the fact a lot of the TV money is already spent and the chances of this season not being finished look a lot slimmer than I'd thought they were.
Take what we can get at this stage I was 100% confident we'd win it when corona kicked off and have got as low as 70%, back up to about 90 now
