Another one was "Man gets hit by car while in phone box and sues the phone company". Ronald Reagan used that in a speech on behalf of the insurance lobby to try and get a cap on compensation payouts. Sounds crazy when you put it like that but what it left out was that the phone box on a busy intersection had been wiped out by another car a few years earlier and was just rebuilt in the same place with nothing to guard against it happening again, and with a faulty door which jammed when the victim tried to get out after he'd seen the car coming towards him. The driver who was obviously drunk was arrested and taken to the hospital to be blood tested but the results of those tests disappeared. Coincidentally the drivers son was a police officer. The victim who lost his leg among other serious injuries was forced to settle with the driver for 25k because of that which meant he would have lived his life in abject poverty because of other peoples negligence if he hadn't of used that money to sue the phone company. Even then it took 10 years to get a payout and the man died at 53 years old. Corruption at the phone company, the hospital and the LA police department but Ronald Reagan tells the whole country that a genuine victim is a chancer.
Healthcare in the US is outrageous Two examples from personal experience: My brother went to college in New York and needed a blood test before getting his visa. He was charged $1500 “cash price” in a hospital for this blood test, or if he had health insurance, the price was $1900, which would be charged to the health insurance provider I have a friend who lives in San Fran and has good healthcare with work. He has to pay $350 for a GP apt to get his asthma inhaler renewed. So when ever anyone travels to visit, he makes sure to get them here and brought over, as he has an old subscription that he has here which never cancelled
Shocking and only the tip of the iceberg mate. This video is 20 minutes long but it explains a lot of the issues with health insurance in America and its John Oliver so theres plenty of jokes mixed in.
Actually find a lot of the stuff that John Oliver covers on his Last Week Tonight show quite informative. That, and you also get to enjoy him take the pi$$ out of Trump on a regular basis.
Work night out last night and in the office at 9 this morning after crawling into bed at 3 am. Wife isn't talking to me, feel like complete sh*t but it was good crack. At 36 you'd think I'd know better but couldn't peel myself out of the pub.
Wait until your 55 and leaving Matthew Street at 4 in the morning of a Monday night and you'[[ know all about it !!
hard to believe he's 22 years gone, I can still remember exactly where I was when I heard the news of his death, feels like only yesterday.
I moved house last September, I changed has and electric company and the time. Set up DD, paperless etc. Since then I have gotten my electricity bill as normal however my gas bill hasn't been charged. I have rang them twice and they said on both occasions it's due to bill next week. This week my online bill changed from Feb 27th to April 27th and is still at zero. I'm stuck between killing the golden goose and facing a whopper bill somewhere down the line. Anyone ever experienced anything similar? I'm happy to pay, happy not to pay and also willing to move providers if I know I won't have to pay the last 6 months.
Probably a different situation but they put my new meter in the wrong way around and it didnt cost me a penny even after they sorted it. But then they had no record of the gas I'd used.
I've a mate who works in Airtricity this is what he said about your situation: "So id get him to ask why it hasn't billed yet first of all. There may be a something he can help with like giving a reading etc. Then id get him to raise a complaint and say they have a regulatory obligation to bill him regularly and on time. They can't just keep pushing the billing date back. It's grand now to get no bill but in the long run he will suffer. If he changes supplier they will issue a final bill and if it's high enough they can debt block him from switching. And tell him to keep asking for compensation. He will definitely get some. "
Booked it today. Just going to go over and back in the one day. Flying into Luton and out of Stanstead. Booked the earlier flight out of Stanstead which was a few pound more expensive and went to book the tour and the first available time was 2pm. Probably would have been a stretch getting to Stanstead for the 8pm flight so had to pay 15E extra to change to the later flight was actually cheaper the first time around.
Still contact them, make the formal complaint and demand compensation, you'll get looked after. Don't pay the lump sum of the bill and work out a more manageable arrangement for paying it off. My mate runs the compliance department in Airtricity to make sure they look after customers, and deals with the regulator a lot, he reckons they'll get a proper bollocking off the regulator over a case like this.
