The video of him describing a naked man and then showing Mendy in a black top is a million times worse. He was a dope and deserve to pay the stupid tax coming his way.
At first look I didn't think anything of it but having read a bit more on here about it I think he's sailing pretty close to the wind and is likely a bit racist. Hopefully a good old ban on the way
If I was running a club I wouldn’t let a player near their own social media account. Sure let them have one for promotional stuff but don’t give them the password. Silva fairly harmless however needs to remember that he is not sending him a direct message, it’s to billions of people.
Don't know how many players Neil Mellor has signed up with him, but he does have agreements with players that he has to approve there social media output before the player can press the 'send' button.
is that an actual job that he gets paid for? genuine question, or is he an agent, if so I genuinely didn't know?
Bit strange that every fixture in League Cup is a Prem club against a lower league one. No all Prem clashes. They haven't started seeding it have they? Edit: apart from Brighton/Villa and Crawley/Stoke. I've had a mare here.
I heard him say it on some TV show. Can't remember which, possibly the debate on sky sports. I'd have no idea about remuneration. I don't think he is a football agent but I do know that when he was forced to retire from professional football he did go to university to do a media studies course.
Sterling has come out in support of Silva on potentially racist tweet, honestly this is a minefield these days, nobody seems to know what is or isn't okay.
He came across as a bit mixed on it for me They are his pals so are not like that but in the next breath he says he sees why some would take offence Also mentions how people need to be more careful on social media I wonder what his take would have been if he wasnt team mates with the two lads
That's the problem for Sterling here though, he's made himself a spokesman for Kick it Out and if this is not acceptable he needs to call it out straight or he's contributing to a problem by enabling it, that has to be the case regardless of whether they're his own team mates. If he honestly believe that it's fine then that's all good, I can see how most people would just take this as a joke.
The tweet was pure stupidity and even at that I was thinking that's not racist and fully agreed with Barnsey. Then I see the the t shirt video and I'm thinking if I'm Mendy I'd spark the little pr1ck out. Horrendous behaviour.
Theres a growing sense of upset with John Barnes among people who feel he's become a rent a quote who's contributing to the mixed messages on this issue. I agree with him 100% that educating society is vital but that doesn't mean that ignorance can always be an excuse. He was a trailblazer, put up with horrendous abuse and deals with it all in the way that was best for him. But in case he hasn't noticed players are still getting racially abused and society isn't going to be educated enough to stop that anytime soon so in the meantime something needs to be done to protect the players. Let 200 fans at Chelsea hold up that picture with a statement released saying it's just a fun way of ribbing an opposition player the next time Mendy is at Stamford Bridge and then interview Raheem Sterling.
Lad on I think Guardian Pod this week not impressed with Barnes on recent issues at all. Usually agree with Barnes but the more you read about this Silva thing, it was nuts thing for him to do and a bit of a strange stance from Digger.
Thing I wonder about is if some random keyboard warrior sent either of those tweets to Mendy, would it still be seen as just a joke? Would Sterling be fudging his answers about it? You'd hope that high profile (any profile) players would have the cop on to realise that "wait a minute, this is going public to potentially millions of people, is it going to cause a ruckus if taken NOT how I meant it, maybe these are things that should be sent in private...if at all" then again if youre wondering if you need to send it privately, you already suspect someones going to get the hump about it, and probably shouldnt be sending it at all. Suarez's defense (however much BS it was or wasnt) was he used a word associated with basically the south american version of what used to be a "golly bar" ice cream complete with little native on the package, and allegedly meant "little black friend". I'm more inclined to believe Suarez was being Suarez and Silva was joking with a friend but how do you separate the two if seen in isolation? I'm not advocating for a 10 match ban for Silva, but at some point if the "kick it out" movement is going to do any real good, a zero tolerance policy across the board is going to have to be instituted. Hateful comments, jokes, jeering with the masses (thinking ultras) or downright stupidity shouldnt be any excuse in this day and age.
Tottenham Hotspur FC. Jan Vertonghen caught sleeping with Christian Eriksen wife. Harry Kane got involved, big dressing room bust up. Club refusing to offer Vertonghen a new contract. Eriksen was due to join Real Madrid but personal reasons stopped the deal. Half the players not taking to each other, Eriksen said he’s not in a good place to play football. Pochettino unable to resolve the situation, likely to join Real Madrid in the summer and take Eriksen with him and possibly Kane. Fella at work sent me this, could be pure bull but could be 100% true
spurs fan told me similar bout vertonghen nd eriksen wife yesterday. as the saying goes 'no smoke without fire'
