Thought this might be pushed to Sunday. The date for the super cup was known well in advance of fixture list. Biggest job next few days is to get guys rested and all the knocks rubbed out of them! Tiredness etc. aside we should win this. Tricky away day always but the gap in quality should be enough for 3 points. Saints were poor the last day.
Going with this: --------------------------Adrian----------------------- Trent---------Matip-------------VVD-------Robbo ---------------Gini-----Milner------Ox------------ --------Salah---------Bobby----------Mane
I'd have Henderson instead of ox but I know your thinking freshen it up. Just don't think we can play away from home without either Henderson or fabinho especially with how open we have looked so far.
The first of 3 big games before the first international break. We will need to freshen it up. Team selection will be interesting.
I have no idea what the team will be, but there's going to have to be a massive shake up. If we win here it will really be some achievement. Southampton are not world beaters but they are tough to play against at home. They'll have been licking their lips at that last night and they will no doubt press us like maniacs from the off. Does Salah start? What's the midfield?
Even after 120mins , im still expecting Klopp not to go mad with rotation. Don’t we have a full weeks rest after this .
Tough to know what way he'll go after Wednesday going into extra time and Keitas injury forcing Henderson to play the full 120. I'd say the back 5 are nailed on Adrian TAA Gomez VVD Robertson and Wijnaldum and Firmino will start but after that its tricky. He wanted to rest Henderson but couldn't and he ended up playing the full 120 and Fabinho was out on his feet. It was Manes first start plus Salah might be due a rest so he might start Origi ahead of one of those two. The 5 changes and it was meant to be 6 suggests he didn't want too many playing all 3 games so theres a few decisions to be made.
The 120 minutes on Wednesday didn't do us any favours. I'd go for Adrian TAA - Matip - VVD - Robertson Wijnaldum - Milner - Ox Shaqiri - Firmino - Origi
I'd expect a few changes but not too many. I'd imagine there will have been little or no preparation done for this match on the training ground other than to rest plenty. Difficult game considering the circumstances but win this and we will be in good shape with a full week until the next game.
I could see why the likes of Mane would need a rest and maybe Salah but resting players 3 games in seems a bit mad, even after Extra time in mid week. Adrian TAA, Matip, VVD, Robbo Fabinho Gini, Milner Salah, Firmino, Origi Mane to come on 60 and get a Hatrick
Keita out with no return date as of yet I'd start Adrian if fit Usual back 4 Fabinho Milner Gini Origi Bobby Mane
Adrian a doubt due to fan running onto the pitch at da end of game and skidding into him, injuring hes ankle.........ammmm the wtf !!!
His plan was to make 6 changes in the second game mate. I think it's more about players not being up to full fitness and the risk of injury that goes with it rather than resting players to keep them fresh.
Understand the tough game midweek will have an effect on selection especially so early in the season and the couple of knocka knocks don't help but getting 3 points tomorrow will be a massive result, get through this then its a week gap between our next 2 with burnley away only being a short trip will give the lads time to fine tune things and settle back in at melwood for the season seems like they havent had much time there at all lately bound to have an effect all the travelling and camps etc.
I will eat my hat if we don't start either of Salah or Mane. Both will almost certainly start imo. Klopp doesn't rest players the way we feel that he should. Gomez will maintain his position at CB ahead of Matip I think. Fabinho will play if he has recovered from Wednesday, it was mad to see him take a pen after being on the ground with cramp for 3 or 4 mins. If he doesn't start, it will be interesting to see who is selected to play in the holding midfield position. I expect a very similar team that played against Norwich (obviously with a different GK).
I think Adrian will play this one without problem. See an interview saying he's going to strap it up and take pain killers. That's a sure sign that it isn't too bad.
