The missus got the email last week to say the refund for the flights for the family holiday were been refunded and it had been processed and could take 3-5 days. She requested the refund in May when the flights were cancelled . So happy days .

Would anyone be able to hazard a guess when we could travel normally to the US?

Normally - after everyone has the vaccine.

Travel there - possibly next Spring. All dependant on what direction the amount of Covid-19 cases goes.

So I am probably being optimistic in thinking that I will get over there in January?

Not, you're not being too optimistic really. It's unlikely imo, but it's all up in the air at the moment. It'll depend on the cases both in Ireland and in the US. Trump wants to return to normality ASAP, although he mightn't be the president then anyway ;)

Did you get any notification off them that you were getting it?

My voucher was to expire in April. Used this form to get the cash refund.

    https://onlineform.ryanair.com/ie/en/cash-refund

Came through in about in 10 days.

would encourage people to do now so because a lot of people will start to realise these vouchers are expiring and will be a huge increase in people looking for the refund.

They cancelled my flight to Santorini in May. Moved it to July at no extra cost. That's a result as far as I'm concerned.

Moved my holiday from last may to this may. Obviously won’t be able to go. Does anyone know what predicament I’m in now? I shud have just requested refund.

I realise it's a challenge to request a refund from Ryanair, but I would go straight for a refund instead of accepting a voucher - especially if it has an expiry date.

my understanding is you will still be able to get a voucher (5 year) but no refund at this stage.

Use their chatbot - and type "can i speak to a human" and some should be able to help

cheers for the advice which I took and got thru to an agent pretty quickly but this was the response unfortunately

Hello, if your flight is still operating and you're not sure that you'll take it, then the only thing that I can offer is the flight change on the website. If you've booked before the 10th of June, the flight change fee won't be waived I'm afraid.
I can see that you want to respect the advice of the authorities, but a travel ban is not in effect currently, the borders are open, as long as the flight is operational we are not in the position to offer free flight move or refund (or voucher).

That is a disgraceful reply. No surprise from Ryanair though. They basically told you, "Whatever the government guidelines are, take the flight, or lose your money. Up to you."

Those might be their rules, but I would not like that job to have to send a message like that. I'd feel sick.
