Just moved into a new house Anyone any recommendations in Leinster where to shop for the below that might have good value or deals. Or would anyone think it'd be worth a trip up north? Appliances (fridge freezer, oven, hob, washing machine, dryer, dishwasher etc.) Beds Wardrobes Sofas Appreciate any responses
The likes of harvey norman all do interest free credit on beds and sofas if it's a factor. They wouldn't necessarily be the best value in the first place for all of the above though
Cheers, I'm okay for buying all the stuff outright. Power city seems quite reasonable was just seeing if anyone else had recommendations I might not have tought of, thanks for the reply
You might be able to find a supplier to someone that would cut you a decent deal if you ordered everything off them. The types of people that the "kitchen guy" would use etc. If not, it's really just a case of setting a budget per item and find something you like that fits in there.
I always find PowerCity the best value. Can get good deals on ex display in particular. Go into the store and ask manager about any ex display deals they might have. I would then buy the extended warranty with the save.
Michael Murphy's in Newbridge I find great for furniture quality is top notch and prices are ok. Powercity for electrics and kitchen stuff is best.
Good shouts already here. Few places we have bought stuff in last few years after getting our house Micheal Murphy (Swords) Hanleys (Liffey Valley) Harvey Norman/ Power City / EZ living iKEA is a great place for random things too. Bought a fair few storage items, kitchen stuff etc there Happy shopping. No better feeling than buying stuff for your own house. Although we are 3 years in our place and still buying, so it doesn’t end
We're nearly 3 years in and we've bought sod all to be perfectly honest, there was a mad rush to get the essentials and since then it's just gone on the back burner. The missus has a bit of a meltdown every few months and blames me for us having gotten lazy about it but eventually peace returns and the house continues unfinished. Places we did like when we were buying stuff, Arnotts (expensive but great stuff, we had some credit from wedding presents), Ikea is genuinely good for anything you can imagine and looks great but quality is usually poor. There's a spot down in Navan that's ridiculous for getting little bits, Shanleys, I've sadly lost hours of my life down there.
I'm not sure if it's still the case but Harvey Norman can be negotiated with (Not on electronics). My sister was a buyer there and the staff had a figure they needed to sell for, everything else was gravy. For example a couch marked for €1200 might be available for €900, the higher the price the more commission they get but they would rather a sale of some description than nothing at all.
That seems to be the case, especially the more you buy the more you can bargain them. They run a staff process night twice a year that invites are fairly easy to get to
And their prices are sometimes higher on the staff nights. Always look under the display price and you'll usually see a cheaper one, switch them around and then call the staff member over to try tack a discount on.
We used https://donaghybros.co.uk/ and the beat all of the prices we got down here and gave free delivery to dublin. We picked what we wanted and sent them a list of all the stuff, they gave us individual prices for each (which were better than we could get anywhere else) and then said if we bought it all together off them we get a discount on top of the price. There was also a delay in or kitchen being ready and they delayed the delivery twice for us without any issue.
what I did was pick the model & brand of item you want & pricespy it. I did that when moving into new house. I remember that the local Euronics outlet didn't have or even know of the specific model of Beko fridge i was after which was on the main Euronics website, but the retailers don't necsessarily have in stock or even sell whats on the main website, but they were still able to order it in. If you come across an independent retailer with a franchise eg Euronics, Topline or Expert, you can usually bundle & get a good deal for all electrical items your after.. Don't know where your located, but an example would be Ganleys in Athlone. We got our couch in DFS, it was interest free payback.
Thanks for all the responses, I'll get a look at all the places hopefully next week and price spy the items I want too. Appreciate all the replies
Micheal Murphys is great . Lovely to deal with . And excellent quality . Also we bought everything from there, from couches to beds to tablets . And they knocked a good few hundred off which was great .
Have to say Arnotts is top quality if you can get a deal in the sales. Might be still on? We got our kitchen table & chairs there 10 years ago and they are in mint condition still. 60% of the normal price.
