Farage has no interest in winning seats in parliament at this stage, they're worth fuck all to him. The whole point of the Brexit party is to pressure the Tories into a no deal Brexit, that's what both him and the party are being funded to achieve. He knows if he splits the vote it will give Corbyn a great chance of getting into power and he can forget about no deal. That's why he's offering Johnson an electoral pact. Corbyn has been shit on Brexit but he's outmanouvred Dominic Cummings so far and if he can get through October without Brexit or an election happening,he'll be in a strong position. They'll do a deal with the SNP after the next election if the numbers add up. It's hard to see how Johnson gets out of the corner he's backed himself into. It's like hes learned nothing from Teresa May who screwed herself with her own red lines. He's putting it out there that he won't obey the law and ask for an extension so now if he backs down on that hard Brexiters will hammer him. If he sticks to it he's open to be prosecuted and if it results in a no deal Brexit he'll spend the rest of his days defending himself against lawsuits from businesses and companies financially harmed by it. He should of never raised the prospect he'd ignore the bill, nobody would have criticised him for obeying the law if he hadn't of raised the possibility he wouldn't. Between that, proroguing(I cant spell that)parliament and removing the whip from very popular Tories,he's creating problems for himself.
Lib Dems looking like the only half sensible lot of late, but they won't be able to grow quickly enough to really make a difference now (well, unless about 200 torries and labour MPs defect). Must admit, I've been extremely disappointed with SF on the whole Brexit issue. I know they've traditionally abstained from attending Westminster, but there are certain times where you need to put the population that you are supposed to represent ahead of party interests. In this instance, there's something like 7 SF MP's supposed to be representing a fair percentage of the population of NI and I would think the majority of those voted to remain in the EU. Assuming a general election doesn't result in a complete about return, a second referendum and the UK staying in the EU, then I'd say that's where we're going alright. No matter what happens, I'm just praying it doesn't end with a complete return to violence up the North. It's clear that there are certain factions trying to restart the violence and they've got to be stopped, for all our sakes.
Garrett, I turned your post upside down there but what you just advocated should happen would lead to a return to violence in the North imo. I am no fan of SF, but clearly recognizing the legitimacy of UK sovereignty goes against everything they represent and stand for.
SF will never sit in Westminster and take that oath to the crown. And why should they indulge the various charlatans playing games? "51% of people in Northern Ireland support Irish unification, new poll finds" https://jrnl.ie/4804372 It's not exactly scientific but it's an indicator of seismic shifts in attitudes; the brits will throw unionists under the bus when it suits them. We will have a United Ireland within 10 years, a no- deal Brexit will accelerate this. There will be short term pain but we need to play the long game.
I'm convinced these fuckers think being British is some sort of superpower. I'd love one of these politicians talking about how the British spirit will make Brexit a success to be asked what it means and which countries citizens lack those qualities? Character isn't based on nationality and those people that rang the police when KFC ran out of chicken are just as British as the rest of yis. Deluded fucks.
They wouldn't need to answer it if they were asked Mick, some sort of rebbutal along the lines of "it's people like you that don't believe in the British people that have us in this mess" and their own fans woujd be hollering at the TV in support of them. They might send out little mini union Jack's for them all to wave like they do in Stamford bridge.
Theres a few in the media over there who insist on answers to their questions but they're few and far between and the Brexiters try to avoid their programmes. I find James O'Brien very cathartic, takes the time to educate himself on the topics of his show and insists on evidence to back up peoples claims. Brexiters hate him.
Yeah they'll just avoid anyone that causes then grief looking for evidence of any claims, it doesn't matter anymore that it looks certain you're taking sh*t, people have chosen sides on most issues and will believe willingly whatever propaganda they hear which supports the ideology they follow!
Proroguing was deemed unlawful. All back to work tomorrow. No statement from Boris yet. Wonder was he watching or did someone wake him up to tell him the good news
Brexiters who said prorogation had nothing to do with Brexit are accusing judges of trying to thwart Brexit. There was a time when that would have seemed strange but it wouldnt crack the top 100 contradictions of this shitshow. Farage who supported it initially now says it was the worst political decision ever and Dominic Cummings needs to be sacked. I think we can safely assume Farage sees Cummings as an obstacle to an electoral pact with the Tories. Watford performed better on Saturday than Johnson has as PM so far.
I said it from the moment she retired but the PM that followed her was going to paint her in a much better light than she ever painted herself in and Johnson has not failed to deliver on that front. He's literally the worst PM you could ever imagine. The great pity is that there's simply no way I can see this whole thing ending with an amicable outcome for both sides which naturally means that the UK is going to be left more divided than ever by this whole mess. It's going to take at least a generation for this to be put right and politics and society in Britain feels like it may never leave behind the partisan rift that this has created regardless of what happens between now and October 31st.
Its a shame BBC and sky didn't and still don't have the same policy with the actual clown in question. Instead it's a platform. Same goes for our shit heads here at home too.
Been saying it for a long time, challenge these fuckers properly by insisting they answer questions and back up their answers with evidence. Call them out on their lies and stop giving platforms to people just because they offer a different view because you're terrified of being accused of lack of balance. As the saying goes, everybody is entitled to their opinion but not every opinion deserves respect and BBC in particular have been a disgrace.
If only Irish households hadn't forgotten the long lost art of making a sandwich. Headline from RTE news: "Sandwich prices could soar in no-deal Brexit outcome" And the most damning piece from the article: "A sandwich could double in price overnight so it really does affect everyone," warned BrĂan. (Director of Cullys Bakers) It is a simple example but a stark reminder of what a crash out could mean for Ireland. Shit just got real, ladies and gentlemen.
