Such sad news I seen a video from Derry last night People out on the street with kids making videos and cheering while lads run around throwing petrol bombs What a mad world
That's horrific news, is there a suspicion that she was murdered for work she did as a journalist or was that just included as her profession? - Edit just read the article again, sounds like wrong place wrong time. h Sad to see things like this still going on, Brexit is a wonderful opportunity for the vermin on both sides to get back to the worst of times again and the DUP are actively encouraging it by promoting their sad little Union narrative as what the people of the north want. SF are complicit in not getting a Government formed up there too.
Genuine question Ed, having seen how the DUP approach negotiations and politics in general, what do you think Sinn Fein have failed to do to get the Assembly back up and running?
Doesn't help when people are running around with balaclavas and guns, along with you people trying to petrol bomb and potentially kill cops as well.. poor woman in wrong place and time. Unfortunately if the cops go into this area the same thing will happen as regards petrol bombs. I hope they find the people who killed this innocent woman. Hopefully people come forward with info(highly unlikely).. time for SF and SDLP to ask the correct people to come forward with info
Sorry mate, but I'm asking a specific question that cant be answered with a sweeping generalisation. I'm not saying Sinn Fein carry no blame for there being no assembly,I'm asking what they have or haven't done to deserve blame for that particular situation because it's obvious to me how unreasonable the DUP have been and are in general. I also dont know if stopping politicians wages would force them back into power sharing, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be a good foundation to rebuild from.
I hugely dislike DUP. But has both parties to blame for not been in power. They have a duty to be in parliament to serve the people.
Might I answer your question with another question, what other option is there? When faced with only one option that can work sometimes you must go down a road you don't particularly want to just to avoid doing nothing at all. The bipartisanship up north is growing more steadily by the month from what I can see and if the two only political parties cannot form a government which shows leadership from the front then this will continue to be the case. The DUP are a jokeshop but they're the representative party for the unionists in the north and will always form a part of the Government.
I don't think you can answer my question with another question mate because the troubles or at least what we refer to as the troubles, started because the Catholic community were oppressed and treated as second class citizens in their own country. Sinn Fein just simply capitulating to a DUP who aren't and have no interest in being reasonable and showing all communities the respect they deserve, would not be in anybody's interests in the long run. It was their way or no way for decades and Northern Ireland seemed to be finally in a place where everybody was working for the greater good. But after being weakened politically by different scandals, the DUP took the road of obstructionism and to try and go back to the type of politics where they enforce their will rather than look for consensus. As bad as it is that there's no assembly, allowing Northern Ireland to return to that kind of politics is worse. If we've learned anything from that type of unionism over the years its that if they succeed with those tactics they'll keep on using them to try and reassert their dominance, because they're fuckin headbangers. Anybody not willing to be reasonable in the process need to be left outside the process, like when they wouldn't support the Good Friday Agreement, they soon got on board when they saw things were moving on without them. Power sharing needs to be exactly that and the process has come too far to allow the DUP to undermine the institutions, and that's exactly what Sinn Fein giving in to this type of behaviour would do.
Mate who is close enough to politics up there reckons the DUP don’t want to bring back the assembly as a lot of grass roots unionists would go against them and they would lose their power if there was elections. A lot of business people who may have voted for them previously now would go against as they don’t have the best interests of the six counties as clearly displayed in their antics on Brexit. They would have loved a hard Brexit which would have been a disaster for majority of people. The UUP if they got their act together could get back the majority next set of elections. The egomaniacs in the DUP don’t give too fcks about the ordinary people of Northern Ireland, they have got to a place where they actually have power within the United Kingdom and they don’t want anything to stop that situation.
While we're talking politics,Peadair Toibins strategy for launching his party has been pretty decent. Dog whistle to the large element of the anti abortion movement that dont like immigrants while sticking to media outlets that are hostile to Sinn Fein to build up a media presence. That way he's never asked to explain what his parties immigration policy actually is and hes also never asked why he spent 21 years in a party that's now more worthy of his attacks than any other. If he manages to become more mainstream he'll either have to lurch to the right to have a chance of becoming a player or the party will tear itself apart from the inside with the large contradictions in Peadairs stated politics and many of its members and supporters.
I wasn't actually challenging you on that Mick by anwering your question with a question, I'm not exactly up to speed with NI politics I must admit and was just speculating more so. I think the DUP probably realise that they're in a win win situation, the default for them with rule from Westminster suits their electorate just fine and with them as king makers in Westminster the current arrangement actually gives them a default position of power. I'll have to acknowledge your far superior knowledge on northern politics on this one though Babbs, the specific ins and outs of what the DUP were demanding of SF in power sharing is not clear for me, I had understood it was to do with Fosters backing of the Cash for Ash scheme and SF pushing for parity of the Irish language in the North the second of which I do find marginally ludicrous to collapse a Government over.
Would be far from an expert on northern politics pal or any politics for that matter but I know what you meant. All I'm saying is that if we are to apportion blame for a specific situation there needs to be specific reasoning as to what one side or the other is doing wrong. I have my view on who's to blame but that doesn't necessarily mean I'm right and that there no blame on Sinn Fein.
It’ll be an honor to march down o,Connell street today for the last time with my comrades. Makes me sick to see them murdering bastards marching on Friday . That should never on been allowed.
It's actually insane that it was allowed to happen but something to do with their numbers meant that they didn't actually need council approval. Headbangers playing dressup as soldiers marching down O'Connell Street, I do wonder about the mental capacity of a lot of people around the world.
Doherty under fire for suggesting cash isn't cause of low paternity leave rates https://www.independent.ie/irish-ne...se-of-low-paternity-leave-rates-38048847.html "We need a conversation about this" seems to be the new way of backtracking from politicians saying something that's meaning is obvious to everybody listening except those who want to believe something different. Of course money is the reason most men dont take up the paternity leave they're entitled to.
She claimed there's "a narrative that the value of money associated with the scheme isn't enough for men to take off work". Ms Doherty added: "It doesn't seem to have stopped women from taking maternity leave for time immemorial." Completely nonsense, that's an attack on men from her and if a man said something generic like that about women there'd be murder. She's implying men have no interest in getting involved in the raising of their children and are happier in work. There's no need for a conversation about anything, if people are being offered time off work and they're not taking it then it is because of money, nobody makes a decision to work for any other reason.
