should never be discussed etc etc But just wondering when hopefully all here support Liverpool, a club from a city with a strong socialist background Who do you support ? Both here in Eire, in the UK & further afield. No judgement. Just asking.
I don’t have any really so selected Independant. The next time I vote it will be based on what the local TD will do for the local community. You can’t believe anything any political party promises in relation to what they will do for the country. Once they get in they will do whatever it takes to stay in power rather than follow through on the promises. At least if the local TD doesn’t follow through on what they say they will do, you can bring them up on it. I’d say I be closest to Labour but they are a joke in Ireland. Would be interesting to see what Corbyn would do in England, however I am not sure he would be the savior many think he would be.
I'll probably vote Sinn Fein next election as I did in the last one because I'd like to see a government with a social conscience in this country before I die and they're our last chance. They really need to get their finger out though,it's woeful how badly they're doing in the polls with the problems we have.Running a candidate in the presidential election was a massive own goal. Labour would be leading the current Dail if they'd of resisted the temptation to go into coalition with Fine Gael in the last one. If I lived in the UK or America it would be a complete no brainer,Labour and Democrat because the alternatives are everything thats bad in politics, but both Labour and the Democrats deserve plenty of criticism and there will never be a British or American government that don't do morally reprehensible things no matter who's in power.
Haven't decided yet. I was about to choose independent but after the last general election here where did that vote get me as all we got was the same bunch of cunts propped up by the original bunch of cunts which is tragically hilarious. Politics is broken and if looking at our own tiny piece of the world being fucked over from decades of greed and cronyism isn't bad enough we've got a world now that's a ticking time bomb due to the 1 percent deciding to fabricate a dystopian future.
Personally I don't trust any of them. I especially can't stand that Paul Murphy fella born with a silver spoon in his mouth and then used the people of Tallaght for political office (I'm from Tallaght). The whole structure of how the political system works is completely outdated in my opinion. Alot of this so called politicians aren't qualified for the areas they represent and these leads to issues down the line.
Workers Party if it was there and they were a bigger party. In a complete contradiction of that I'll be going SF at the next election, mainly to try and oust one of the FF/FG heads out my way. Not a massive fan of the Trots. Could do with a Corbyn over here if I'm being honest.
They are all the same really, when you are old enough you see over time that they all had a shot and messed it up eventually!
I think there was a constituency border change the last time and his part of Rathfarnham got realigned as far over as Tallaght. The line is Grange Road think in Rathfarnham which is mostly posh enough
I use to fg as cousin ran, then my doctor was a ff minister drive up the wrong road..ill be going independent again.hopefully SF get nowhere near it.i didn't like there blood stained politics in the north. However they are seen as a rebel vote against current 2 top parties.
Spent centuries trying to get out of it!! Why they have that toe rag near any conference is beyond me.
Hi, In the first instance, I'll probably be trying to vote the current politicians out, as they've just about all proven to be unreliable, self serving etc. If I take Finian McGrath as a local example, I might previously have voted for him on the basis of him standing for Health, then find he wants to go off to North Korea with his mates all expenses paid thinking he's going to solve the issues between North Korea and the USA ffs. Having failed to do that, then gets a junket to Cuba (apparently to represent Irish interests in Cuba on St. Patrick's Day). That's the last thing that I want our taxes spent on, or our officials paid to be doing. I'll probably then try and vote for those that I think might actually do some good for my locality, be it the Healy-Rae's, Dustin the Turkey etc. I'm not sure I actually care who it is or what they look like, once I think my local community will benefit if they get in.
Personally I have zero party affiliation. The lot of em are incapable of organising a piss up if they were handed the keys to St, James Gate. So I vote for the guy/gal thats closest to me geograpically. If I need a TD's input into something I can find him/her. Carlow/Kilkenny voters a few elections back put all 5 seats into the hands/arses of Kilkenny candidates and whatever else they do or dont do - TD's will look after their own constituents as best they can - for obvious reasons, so there was nobody to "look after" the Carlow area at a time there was a major push on trying to get a special needs school built that is BADLY needed in the area. That push came to a grinding halt and any funding that came to the constituency niced up Kilkenny. So I dont really care which party they are, as long as I can find them to holler at them when I feel the need. (Give my TD his due - I was having trouble with the HSE/Social protection depts trying to get my disability pension sorted for about 18 months. Got the TD to wade in and had it got in 2 weeks!
I see Paidir Toibins new party is jumping on the immigration bandwagon. It seems "new politics" is basically about trying to be a more successful Renua. He was always going to have a choice to make, because for some reason it seems most of the anti abortion activists see immigration as a big problem and they're the people he needs to get on board for his party to have any relevance. The problem he has is when you cast a net in waters that contains a lot of the crazies, you cant avoid catching a few of them and they can easily sink you before you've really got started.
When you look him up on wikipedia, it says "This is about the Irish politician, for the scottish serial killer search Peter Tobin" That's a very good start. Someone texted in with a very good point to Newstalk this morning, he is pretty much on the opposite side to me on every topic but the text said better to have a rational debate on immigration than leave a vacuum to be filled by right wing populists. I agree with that. It might actually cull the populists out.
If I thought it was a genuine attempt to have a rational debate on immigration Id agree with you but I just dont think it is. Maybe I'm being too cynical, but I think it's a dog whistle because they realise the demographic they need to get on board blame immigration for a lot of the countries problems. I find him a pretty disingenuous man in general and theres already a fair bit of contradiction in what he claims the party stand for and some of the candidates that will be running for them.
