Social media has made mocking other fans a constant thing online. Im only on FB but member of the Irish Reds page, and 90% of the stuff posted is cringe, mainly about United etc. Not my cup of tea, as tempting fate and keep it for when you play the team. Its going to get worse too, as at every game you see people in the ground taking photos of rival players, set pieces etc. just to be able to share it online, even if the goal is against them. Saw a video last night of a Chelsea fan filming himself singing the Gerrard song on Sunday, when 5-0 down Sums up some modern football fans I guess. I only started going to games in late 90s, but back then MOTD was the only way you would see back goals that you had watched live, and use to savor it
Yes goes on from both sides and I can understand keeping powder dry but also those that don't want to. Gary Neville and Rio Ferdinand classic examples who take joy in bantering over us failing but got to ground when thinks aren't going for them. As you say it is what is banter!
Never mind keeping powder dry until the end of the season, how about until after the next league game at OT? Let's not do Ole's dressing room talk for him, God knows they will be up enough for it trying to derail our title shot.
I don't like tempting fate so I keep my mouth shut until it's all over. But I have mates who are scum fans and still like putting the knife in whenever they get the chance....even if it's nothing to do with Utd. They are in their mid 40s and have been at it for years. One of them gave me a lift home after the 4-0 defeat and proceeded to drive around every roundabout 4 times. There were a lot of roundabouts. That was 15 years ago but it is still fresh in my mind, so if we finish top at the end of the season, I am not holding back anymore. I am giving it both barrels.
I'd just say there's no such thing as tempting fate, the universe will not punish anybody for winding up their ManU supporting mates and now is a great time for rubbing their noses in their mediocrity if its something you really want to do.The chance might pass you by while they're celebrating wins v Fulham like its a cup final, treating top 4 like a trophy and supporting their local rivals every week. If you'd rather keep your powder dry and keep the moral high ground, that's fine too but you won't be giving them stick for anything they haven't been giving it to other clubs over for years. David Moyes is their only manager to win a CL knockout tie since the 10/11 season for fuck sake, treat yourself. Remind them how Paul Pogba has literally never taken a game by the scruff of the neck against a top side whirl they're calling him the best player in Europe. Patronize them by saying how you understand why they're City fans every week now,but you'd put a gun in your mouth before ever doing that with Everton. Tell them how unbearable you're going to be if we win the league,it might leave you open to stick if it doesn't happen but you're going to get that anyway and it will add to how terrified they'll be between now and then.Tuck it,take enjoyment where you can get it.And if you don't understand how terrified they actually are,my Old Trafford season ticket holding mate when asked would he take us winning the league if I could guarantee them winning the CL, said no. Get into the cunts.
It stems from jealousy on their part. Even after their most successful period in their history where they won everything they still have 2 European Cups less than us. This is obviously the biggest trophy a team can win and it gauls them that they can't say their the best English outright team as it sounds ridiculous with only 3 European Cups to their name. The clear success they had over us through the 90's and 00's means they clearly think they're better than us and it shows when they can't resist any chance to rub it in when we lose.
When it would come to the actual game I’d probably do what I did for Chelsea United Final in 00s and just completely avoid build up, game itself and aftermath. Back for that final first I knew United Won was someone reading the Metro on the Luas and Picture of Terry slipping. Didn’t waste another minute thinking about the game and don’t think I ever saw the goals from it. The longer City go without a UCL the better, I hope them and PSG never get one. United getting one would be a sickner for sure but in grand scheme of things I could take it on the chin. Anyway all pie in the sky as United look fooked this year thankfully. Was no gloating from me as Bayern could turn up at Anfield next and do the same. Less likely but possible I am one for keeping my powder dry as the lads who follow United I know that have stood by them through the lean years were never really idiots in first place. Sure we almost came to blows during matches in the pub in our young days however once it was over, we moved on. I wouldn’t even get into a conversation with muppet United fans be it in person or social media.
I've heard that being muttered in the past few weeks by Utd fans proclaiming their loyalty and that they never gave up on the team in the last few years when the world has been falling apart, the way they were going on you'd swear they were Leeds fans still suffering on but in the past few years they've still had a League Cup, an FA Cup, an Europa League and one of whatever the nomenclature for the preseason shield was in the year in question. Fair enough they haven't won a league but you'd swear their loyalty had been tested to the brink with multiple relegations the way they're going on. In their same "barren" period Liverpol have won absolutely nothing, we've been in a few finals but there's nothing in the cabinet to show for them, admittedly even with the comparative lack of success there's a general feeling that it's a much more positive time to be a Liverpool fan but most Utd fans haven't got a clue what a barren or lean spell is.
A fella last week telling me what has Poch done in life now questioning if young Busby is the man now at all. Another fella I can set my watch by if Liverpool lose he will be on at me as soon as I sit down. Never a word on days like today. The best part is I just sit down and say nothing.
I know at least 5-10 lads who were United Fanatics Under Ferguson in 00s. Would have travelled over regularly. After a season or two under Moyes and LVG, they stopped watching even on TV. Lost the love for it!!! Anyway Gerry’s post was about going on about United too much and here we are a page ahead still going on about them. They are too big a club not to come back to be being successful so I suppose enjoy these times while they last. Until Sunday week at least
It's actually a much better way of psychologically getting at someone, pretend you forgot about it and were watching Eastenders or something.
Just looking at the Academic writing thread there and how I literally haven't got a clue what's being discussed, and while I'd never regret the route I took away from formal education,I definitely think I missed out too. I've always loved learning about things I'm interested in and I think I'd have enjoyed the experience of further education.
Never too late for further education. I would have been similar to yourself. I found a subject I liked and completed a couple of certificates and a diploma course recently. I think with fe the timing has to be right to do it. Loads of courses out there and if it's a subject you are into you will sail through it.
Congratulations mate and fair play for putting in the time and effort. The problem I have is I work shifts but I'm determined to try and do something. Somebody suggested online courses but I really want the classroom experience. There's lads in work who've managed it but it's been things that they've convinced the job is beneficial to them and in some cases the job has actually paid for their courses but I can't see anything for me in that regard but I'm certain an opportunity will present itself.
Having worked shift for a few years I know exactly what you mean, difficult to arrange anything when on shift work. Hopefully opportunity will happen for yourself.
Just can't do it. A 0-0 draw is the best I can do. I'd rather see Everton win than United. Should have put this in controversial thread!
None of us like seeing Utd win but if it comes down to points in the title race and say we lose by goal difference that point that you were happy for City to get against Utd would be the difference. How could you live with yourself? I hate Utd and their arrogant fans with a passion btw.
This could be my blindspot. Whatever happens, the best team wins the league over 38 games and not just the games against united. We win all our games now and we are chsmpions so it doesn't matter what United do. We have it in our control.
