I think when we weren't breaking through in the first half we should have pushed mane and salah further wide, hug the wings and try stretch them. But it was difficult when they packed it to be sure. I thought Bobby struggled today.
They had the bodies there to deal with those two hugging the touchline, they could easily fill the gaps and I think it made sense to vacate those areas in play to leave space for the full backs to move into and receive the ball, and we were very unlucky not to score from it.Firmino and Shaqiri both had very good chances from balls from the full backs in those situations. It was just a matter of being patient and the goal would come.
I think there were times in the first half when there were chances for the midfielders to get turned and play a slightly more ambitious ball into the feet of the front four but more often than not they went side to side and back. Credit to Brighton though they limited these chances. Looking forward to Fabinho being regularly in midfield as he seems to look forward a little more with his passing. Overall thought Hendo and Gini did a good job. They didn't have a shot on target and a lot of that was down to them. Against teams that play like that you often have to build up slowly and get the ball into the feet of the front men as often as possible. When we did that I wasnt surprised it resulted in a goal
Hi fellow reds. First time poster. Thought Fabinho was solid in CB, probably due to Van Dijk steadying the ship yet again.
For me that was like Watford away, didn't look like scoring but where in total control and eventually control like that will find a way through. Some of our passing was dreadful and it made Henderson look like a right tool at times. But it's clearly a tactic (that we used to use much more in previous seasons) to knock aimless balls over the top that we have no chance of winning and then let the opposition deal with facing their own goal deep inside their half. We didn't score from it but they gave us the ball 3 or 4 times in dangerous positions that we nearly developed into chances.
A bit nerve wrecking near the end. I thought Keita was going to cost the game. Also that Origi sub was always going to add another 30 secs. I don’t get that sub with 1 minute injury time to go. Overall not vintage, but fair play to Fabinho, no nonsense approach to a position he seemingly never played in any league game. Robertson an excellent outlet all day.
Never seen fabinbo play before we bought him. Hes been a great signing and I'd deffo play him every week he seems to have a great football brain
This sums up a work colleague so perfectly. It's panic mode if Liverpool don't score in the first 15mins of a match. For me that was a very professional performance if not spectacular. The Kaiser seemed well pleased with the victory judging from his post match press conference.
I thought Keita was fouled when losing possession and I think he did also. For me the problem he has is that he expects free kicks for challenges which may have been given in the Bundesliga but in the PL they are not. He may flourish and gain confidence in the CL.
Andy Gray said on Bein that Salah played for the peno and refs will get be watching him. Clear as day peno Would never hear him say that about Kane Have to say it’s funny to see him and Keys stuck out in the desert
Integrity in the pundit game should matter but it obviously doesn't. Keys and Gray are fuckin whoppers and Rio Ferdinand defending Mike Ashley today because he has business interests with him is a disgrace. And a proper disgrace, not the type of disgrace Chris Sutton pretends so many things are while complaining about everyone being too easily offended.
Great 3 points considering if we didn't get da panic buttons would have pressed, if Shaquiri or salah scores that sitter the scoreline would have been perfect instead it was a bit squeeky bum, but now with vvd there ya feel look we got this no worries. I taught fabinho was brillant at CB and hendo and gini outstanding in the 2nd. I like chris Hughton i wouldnt like to see them go down but if they play that way wk in wk than its down their heading im afraid. But anyway we march on hopefully wolves will do us a small favour mon nite but i can see nothing but a city clipping there.
They won't play that way every week mate, they set up that way to try and take on one of the most dangerous teams in the league and they only gave up 4/5 chances, with a bit of fortune going their way they may have gotten a draw. It's where we're at now, teams will really set up to negate us but it's a mark of respect for how good we are.
