That was very lucky though with Netherlands looking strong enough to win the UNL we could have finished third and gotten a possible play off spot, a lot of combinations of places available makes it harder not to qualify now than to actually qualify

No play offs this time. Top 2 straight through. 3rd get nothing.

The Nation's League playoffs nearly replaces the normal playoffs.
Even with coming 3rd in the Nation's League, Ireland have a very good chance of getting into the playoffs. We are ranked 23rd of 24 teams from A and B. The playoffs need the top 4 teams from A and the top 4 teams from B for playoffs. If 16 from the top 24 qualify, which is expected, the other 8 will play in the playoffs in A or B.

It is likely Ireland will play in the A league playoffs, which could be against someone strong if they don't qualify. If all teams in A qualify, it could be: Ireland, NI, Slovakia and Czech Republic against each other in the playoffs.

That was been mentioned a few years ago, but we still haven't brought him in. It would be a big addition to our panel.

I said that when I saw the update on my phone. There's a lot of positivity in it, but a lot of hope too!

Have watched Declan Rice a few times this season and have to say I have been very impressed with him as a holding midfielder, he has come on so much from the first game at anfield when he got hooked.

Hope to god he doesn't switch allegiance to England, but yesterday's goal and mom performance will add to the calls for an England call up.

Read somewhere that Southgate wants him as a centre half whereas Mick has promised him he'd build his future midfield around him, hopefully that swings it in our favour as he prefers playing in the middle.

How much though can a promise from Mick McCarthy mean to a 19 year old? McCarthy will be gone before Rices international career has barely gotten going.
