I think Mascherano gets off lightly from a lot of our fans...if I remember correctly he downed tools and left us in the lurch against Citee and they humped us 3 nil...that's unforgivable in my book and no amount of 'this is for the Liverpool fans' (after Barca beat united) will make up for it.
Most annoying Liverpool 11 for me rather than disliked (as in they annoyed me a lot either when they were here or after they left) David James Steve Nicol Neil Ruddock Javier Mascherano Mark Lawrenson Xabi Alonso Danny Murphy Ronnie Whelan El Hadji Diouf John Aldridge Andy Carroll
Alonso is a media and PR whore which is annoying enough on its own, but he allowed a fake narrative to linger after he left that damaged the club as a whole by making the managers job harder than it had to be,a manager who done far more for the club than Alonso did in the two excellent seasons that he bookmarked 3 average ones with. But I'm interested to know, what do you think it says about me given I've respect for plenty of players that moved on to what they considered greener pastures.
lads i’m seeing names on here like Aldo, Alonso, houghton and nichol! Surely we can give those guys a pass considering what they contributed on the pitch? I appeal to Liverpool hearts..... come on now!!!!
Itandje of course, Hillsborough laughing and he was total shit. Heggem was good, I liked him when he was fit. Cheyrou just wasn't hard enough, the did try God bless him. Le Tallec also played a part in 05. Dicks was Dicks
We've had plenty of cunts pass through the club, Alonso's "perceived" misdemeanors are miniscule compared to tonnes of other players. He should be no where near this team. Reading back "what it says about you" sounds a lot harsher than I meant it too. What I meant was you have let the Alonso/Rafa narrative annoy you a lot more than the average man, same thing with Matip, his ability to avoid criticism could be viewed as a skill yet it winds you up way more than it should. He will be in your team when moves on too. Different people get annoyed by different things, I get that I just find these two "minor" issues imo very amusing.
If you think the damage that the "Alonso would have stayed if Rafa hadn't of tried to sell him the season before (when we couldn't attract a bid of 15m)" had on everyone at a very fractious time for the club was minor, then fair enough but i thought it had a big impact. I did point out though it was players who annoyed me and not players who I automatically disliked or hated, to bring something a bit different to the way the thread was going which is why the likes of Itandje and Konchesky weren't included. And why would Joel Matip be included if he left? He doesn't annoy me,the unfairness of how he's judged compared to others annoys me and that's not his fault. But with all due respect Bob,I decide who fulfills the criteria for a team of past players I find annoying and there's players in the 11 who are far less deserving of being in there than Alonso by the criteria you're setting out for me.But I'm glad you find it amusing, that was the whole point of the thread and now that you've clarified that me including Alonso in an annoying 11 isn't a deep character flaw of mine,I find it amusing how annoyed you are that he got in there.
That team would get murdered! How come Diouf's in cm? Surely move 'the guvnor' in there, drop Joe into right of the 3 and move Diouf up to wide right?!!
Thw only former players that I truly disliked are Diouf and Itandje. There were plenty that I would rather we had never brought to the club but supported them once they put the shirt on. And after they had moved on wouldn't have any interest in following their careers.
Liverpool Players that I dislike either when they played or since they left the club Would be for sure Diouf, Owen and for a long time Torres. Would probably still hate him if he scored 100 goals for Chelsea but the fact he was a disaster softened the blow. Really dislike Neil Ruddock, seems to be loads of stories about how he behaved at the club and does not seem popular with ex players at all. Ronnie Whelan was a great Liverpool player but he annoys me and Hamann is heading the same direction. Constantly looking to have a pop at the club but will still make a living of Being a Liverpool legend.
Probably because he scored one of the best goals in the history of the club. Still probably up there as my favourite moment in LFC Premier League history. Immense talent that went to waste, however it’s clear he had significant mental issues and it took Him a long time to come to terms with them and he eventually turned his life around. Backed things like the Fight for Justice in the media look before mainstream media jumped on bandwagon. Not saying he was/is a great fella, however I’d probably go for a pint with him a lot quicker than some of the so called legends travelling the world having done fck all at the club or since they left.
I've read Collymore's autobiography and I'd recommend it to any football fan. Notwithstanding the fact that it, of course, his subjective take on all that has gone on in his life, it is a very interesting read and it is clear that he has had a difficult life. Strangely enough, he speaks very highly of Davina McCall and how she helped him with his struggles. Collymore comes across a a good guy but clearly one with issues.
