You have to wonder what it is going to take for America to wake up to the gun problem. Las Vegas is probably in top 3 tourist destinations there and over 50 innocent people killed and nothing really happens.

You see something like the shooting yesterday and you are not shocked, it’s just another in a long list.

Had the news on there and seen the trump on it saying it's a mental health problem, yeah right.
    I switched it off.

And just think how close this stupid cunt came to being PM.

Its like politics operates with some form of reverse Darwinism.

He may get the PM job yet Babbs, as their current PM is hardly setting the world on fire...

As an aside, do you reckon Boris and Trump got their hair transplants in the same place ? :D

So Sky News could be shut down soon.

I'll be sorry to see it go.

It's 8 years older than BBC news.

    Hi,

... I think that's to try and seal the Fox deal, is it ?

I'd also be sorry to see it gone - think it has proven a good service overall.

I don't understand why they would close it tbh, it's a flagship channel for Sky across much of Europe given it's free to air and promotes their brand. That said, it's probably a loss maker. While I understand the concern about allowing Murdoch have too much control of the media, Sky News is UK/Europe focused whereas most of the staff at Fox News probably couldn't even find Europe on a map.

Personally, I think the takeover of Sky by Fox is bad and would like to see it prevented, but this is the second time they've tried to do the deal and I suppose they want to rail road it through this time, at almost any cost.

I'd far rather see them forced to close a certain red top rag that they publish in the UK (and Ireland, apparently) tbh and actually think it would be doing the world a favour, not just cutting their influence on "news" media. Hardly like a lad can't find other places to see a pair of tits these days, and I can't think of any other reason it might be a loss.

Geldoff handing back his freedom of Dublin city scroll cos he doesn't want his name associated with someone responsible for the rape and abuse of children, that's fair enough but I'm surprised he hasn't handed back his knighthood for the same reason, I certainly wouldn't want my name associated with someone like Jimmy saville.

Probably understandable. Its hypocritical to give it back for those reasons while keeping a knighthood, but the main story here should be the ethnic cleansing currently going on,not Bob Geldof being a hypocrite. To be fair to him he flat out admitted it was as much a PR stunt as anything else in order to raise awareness. It really is horrific whats going on.

He's a fuckin prick. Its already a law that obviously gets ignored a lot because there's not enough of a deterrent, and he's arguing its wrong to introduce a stronger deterrent because it will mean people have to start obeying it.

Putting aside the obvious Healy-Rae thing....

I think a serious part of the overall problem is that they see things from a rural perspective, so whether it's lack of gardai in much of Kerry to protect them from intruders in their homes, or issues with not having quality public transport, decent roads etc. they are going to object to anything that curtails their current way of life. It's probably not that different in other parts of rural Ireland, where people think along similar lines because they also lack key resources...but the absence of the Healy-Rae jean, means they don't come across as extremists or completely nuts quite so often.
