BLACKBURN...

Seen this elswhere today, Is it a sign of the times or things to come? Wonder how anyone who forked out for a season ticket feel.

BLACKBURN Rovers have reduced prices to £10 for their next home game against Fulham – and they have announced plans to vary the cost of tickets throughout the 2010/11 season.

Rovers’ next match at Ewood Park sees Mark Hughes return to East Lancashire with his new Fulham side for a Premier League clash on Saturday, September 18 at 3pm.

It has been announced that tickets in all areas of the stadium will be available at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.

In previous seasons Rovers banded their fixtures into price categories for matchday tickets, depending on the opposition.

But the club have now unveiled plans to vary prices throughout the current campaign based on a number of different factors.

The ‘dynamic pricing policy’ will see prices adjusted depending on the day of the week the match is played on, the ‘attractiveness’ of the opposition, how crucial the match is in terms of league position, whether the game is live on television and even the weather forecast.

Simon Williams, head of commercial and marketing, said: “We are constantly trying to find ways to make watching football at Ewood Park as attractive and appealing as possible.

“The move to introduce ‘dynamic pricing’ comes after discussions with supporters.

"Feedback to our research has provided us with a clear understanding of the many factors which determine whether someone attends or not.

“Our objective is to get as many people here as possible as we strive to continue our magnificent home form and we believe ‘dynamic pricing’ will help to achieve that.

“It is a real innovation in top class football and we hope people are as excited as us at the concept and the possibilities.

“We cannot control the weather, but we can take into account some of the other factors involved and this will affect our pricing of each particular game.”

“The Fulham fixture is not on television and it carries a 3pm kick-off time on a Saturday.

“Fulham do not travel in huge numbers.

"Historically, it does not produce one of our bigger attendances and we felt it was a perfect chance to launch dynamic pricing.

“It is a great all-round offer for everyone.

"We hope we can generate a bigger-than-average crowd for this fixture which will, in turn, create a great atmosphere for what should be a cracking game.”

http://www.irishtimes.com/sports/soc...278152343.html

Houllier interviewed for Villa job
Soccer: Former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier has emerged as a leading candidate to replace Martin O’Neill as Aston Villa manager. The Frenchman has been interviewed by Villa owner Randy Lerner and created a favourable impression with the American multi-millionaire.

Houllier, who is 63 today, left Anfield six years ago and has been employed as technical director at the French Football Federation since parting company with Lyon in 2007.

If Lerner decides Houllier is the right man to succeed O’Neill, then Villa hope to make an appointment early next week — certainly before their next match at Stoke on September 13th.

Houllier enjoyed considerable success with the Reds and led them to a Uefa Cup, FA Cup and League Cup treble in 2001. Villa sources believe he has the reputation and CV to keep Villa on an upward curve after three successive top six finishes in the Premier League.

Before he moved to Liverpool, he also enjoyed title success with Paris St Germain and spent a decade overseeing the development of French football. Former West Ham boss Alan Curbishley and care-taker boss Kevin MacDonald have also been interviewed for the post by Lerner and Villa chief executive Paul Faulkner.

Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz banned for six months

Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz has been suspended for six months after it was ruled that he disrupted an anti-doping test ahead of the World Cup.
...

Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz has been suspended for six months after it was ruled that he disrupted an anti-doping test ahead of the World Cup.

The country's Sports Institute said an inquiry found that Queiroz insulted an anti-doping team and that his aggressive manner upset their work.

The Portuguese Football Federation had already suspended Queiroz for one month for misconduct at the incident in May.

But it said that though he did use foul language, he had not caused disruption.

Portugal's Sports Institute, which governs the National Anti-Doping Agency, said on Thursday that it had sent the ruling to the PFF.

Neither the federation nor Queiroz, 57, have yet to comment on the ruling - though the former Real Madrid coach has previously denied the charge.

The institute's report said that after hearing evidence from all those involved a conclusion was reached that Queiroz's intimidating behaviour had unsettled the anti-doping team and that, as a result, one of the inspectors failed to correctly carry out a test at the training camp.

None of the players tested positive.

Queiroz has previously admitted he was angry that the unannounced early morning tests had disturbed the players and admitted that he used inappropriate language.

Portugal crash out of the 2010 World Cup

The extended suspension could put Queiroz's job at risk, as he is now set to miss the first four of Portugal's Euro 2012 qualifying games.

His assistant, Agostinho Oliveira, has been placed in charge for the matches against Cyprus on Friday and Norway four days later.

Last month, Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson testified on Queiroz's behalf as a character witness at the federation's own inquiry.

Queiroz - who was criticised after Portugal produced a disappointing World Cup campaign in South Africa that saw them eliminated in the second round to eventual champions Spain - was previously Ferguson's assistant at Old Trafford.

This for me, this is whats wrong in football. Won silverware last season - this season Played 3 won one, lost one, drew one - won his last game four nil - sacked.

Saints will go a long way to try and replace someone like Pardew - for that level, he is a top manager.

Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere was arrested in the early hours in connection with a "fracas".

A spokesman for the player said the footballer was held after the incident at 0245 BST in Kensington High Street, London, and later released on bail. Three other men were also arrested.

Emergency crews were called after a man suffered minor facial injuries and a woman sustained a broken arm.

Wilshere, 18, made his England debut in last month's friendly against Hungary.

But this week he was named in the England under-21 squad rather than remaining in contention for the senior side's Euro 2012 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Switzerland

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said the four men - two aged 18 and two aged 21 - were taken to a west London police station and later bailed to return in mid-October pending further inquiries.

A spokesman for the player insisted the 18-year-old had been playing the "role of peacemaker" in the incident.

The spokesman said: "Jack Wilshere was arrested by police in the early hours following a fracas but was released on bail later.

"The police have made it very clear that he is an important witness to the incident and played the role of peacemaker and is unlikely to face any charges as a result.

"Jack has made it very clear he will co-operate fully with the police investigation."

Stevenage-born Wilshere came on as a substitute for Arsenal in the 84th minute on Saturday in his team's 2-1 win over Blackburn.

He has played in all three of Arsenal's Premier League matches so far this season, after spending much of last season on loan at Bolton, and is rated as one of the best young English prospects in the game.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Police were called at approximately 2.45am on Sunday 29 August following reports of an assault on Kensington High Street.

"Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and discovered a man and a woman suffering injuries.

"The woman had suffered a broken and dislocated elbow; the man was treated for a minor facial injury. Both went to a west London hospital for treatment."
