If this one is true I think he could be a good little signing, he'd surely add another 10-15 goals a season....

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...l-Madrid-outcast-Javier-Saviola.html?ITO=1490

Liverpool hope to complete the £5million transfer of Javier Saviola from Real Madrid next week.

Rafa Benitez is keen to sign the Argentina international nicknamed the Rabbit who joined Madrid on a Bosman free from Barcelona two years ago.
The 27-year-old, who has scored 12 goals in 44 internationals, has struggled to establish himself at the Bernabeu and has been told to vacate the No 9 shirt, which will be worn by Cristiano Ronaldo next season.

Ronaldo, on the verge of completing an £80m transfer from Manchester United, has already trademarked 'CR9' for marketing purposes.

Saviola, who has Spanish citizenship, will have even fewer chances with Madrid following the arrival of Kaka and Ronaldo and would offer Liverpool more options in attack.
Madrid intend to offload up to 10 players to accommodate and help fund a spending spree that could reach £260m.
The Spanish giants want to sign Xabi Alonso and, after meeting resistance from Liverpool, may offer Saviola as part of a renewed bid for the 27-year-old.

Alonso also interests Manchester City, but Benitez insists he is going nowhere.

Lmao, he played 7 games last season and 9 the year before. Not a hope imo will he do anything for us. His to small and light weight as well.

At 4-5 million he will certainly improve what we currently have and will also be another "option" .....

As for being too small & lightweight, the last time I heard that comment when when we were in the process of signing Nando...!

Defoe isn't any bigger than Saviola and he can be effective when he wants....

Anything will improve what we have as back up because we have f**k all!

Saviola is 5 foot 6, nando is 6 foot 1.

Defoe has played for years in the PL while your suggestion has played 16 games in 2 years.

Well then if we have fcuk all what are you complaining about!

I didn't say Nando was lightweight plenty of 'experts' in the media did.

What does it matter if he's played 16 games or 60 games, he's only 27 and if he did sign he'd get a full pre-season behind him. If anything having only played 16 games he'd be more fresh.

He wouldn't be signing as a first choice striker but would certainly be a very good option to have on the bench, and at £5M would be well worth it.

i think if rafa can secure this deal it could be the transfer coup of the summer. a quality player who we all know on his day can be a nightmare for defenders. potentially could add 10-15 goals to the team.

Not a chance of 10-15 goals imo and instead of him to sweeten the supposedly Alonso deal why not offer Robben or Snjeider.
This guy cannot make the team that we hammered off the park in the champs league, if Rafa brings him in it could be like his previous signings i.e. morientes, Kromkamp, Nunez, Josemi.

Under no circumstances do I want Alonso to go.

In a deal not involving Alonso I think Saviola could be a very good signing. An extra attacking option, if he really settled then he could be unreal. He hasn't been heard of in 2 years as he hasn't played in Madrid but was a class player before....and is probably hitting the age you'd think would be his prime.

    Could be a good idea.
About aiming higher...well we don't have funds at the moment, and how much higher do you want to aim? I want to sign Aguero but unless we have money we can't.

I think Saviola is a free agent so its irrelevant mentioning him in any supposed swap deals.

Hes burnt out Rich-peaked too early like Owen.Even if he was on form he'd still be a risk because of his physique so now that he's hardly played I definitely wouldnt take him. We'd have to change our formation just to accomodate him aswell.Hes damaged goods imo-stay away.

Agree with the folks above - the bar has to be set higher at our club if we are to seriously make the next step to win number 19.

Yeah no way would this make me happy at 5-10mil and would sicken me as part exchange for Alonso

If Alonso does leave then Sneijder would be pretty much the only one i wouldnt mind in a part exchange

As for Robben FCUK THAT CHEATING DIVING CNUT!!!!!
I actually have the doubious honor of making the comment "robben is the only chelsea player i like" when Gudjohnson dived and after that i think we all know what happend!!

Fair enugh ur entitled to ur opinion and thats exactly what this site is for but i cant understand for the life of me how you could class this burnt out argentine micheal owen as the answer, the lad scored 22 goals over the last 5 seasons 8 at monaco 9 at seville and 5 at Real, i reckon he would struggle to get 5 in the PL

Exactly why should we settle with has beens who will stop the development of young players and cost the club a fortune in wages. The five goals last season he got, Ngog , El Zahr, Nemeth could all possibly get if they are given the same chance as he would be
