Five of the players who helped Liverpool reach the FA Youth Cup final last season have been promoted to Melwood. Lauri Dalla Valle (17), Christopher Buchtmann (17), David Amoo (18), Nathan Eccleston (18) and Alex Kacaniklic (17) will now train full-time with John McMahon's reserves. Also making the step up is last season's U18s goalkeeper Christopher Oldfield (18), who didn't play in the Youth Cup but joined the reserves on their recent trip to Holland. Finnish hitman Dalla Valla scored 20 goals in 28 appearances for the U18s last term, while left-back Buchtmann was a star as Germany U17 won the European Championships last month. Goalscorer Eccleston divided his time between Melwood and the Academy in 2008-09 but will now hope to feature regularly alongside the likes of Krisztian Nemeth and Daniel Pacheco. Former Millwall prodigy Amoo is a powerful right winger who tore defences apart during last season's Cup run, while Swedish hopeful Kacaniklic impressed on the other wing. Meanwhile, we can reveal the names of those who will start scholarships at the Academy next term. They are: Karl Clair, Conor David Coady, Adam Ryan Dawson, John Flanagan, Marcus Giglio, Michael Ihiekwe, Matthew Lawrence McGiveron, Craig Roddan, Alex Whittle, Andre Wisdom, Aaron King and Robert Maloney. http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N164735090612-1326.htm Good luck to them all, let's just wish them well for now and see how they progress, rather than have the usual moans and groans about not getting a chance etc. etc.
good luck to them hopefully we will see the fruits of the acadamy coming thru soon id be suprised though
Hopefully!Surprised Kacaniklic was kept never mind promoted simply because I heard he was getting the boot a few months back? One of our few decent performers in the youth cup finals.
Thomas Ince (son of Paul) looked a decent prospect, any time I saw him play. Surprised to see that he's not in the list.
You must be thinking of someone else Mutant?... Kacaniklic has been very good for the Academy this season... Your not getting him mixed-up with Weijl or Ajdarević are you?
Nah Im deffo not gettin them mixed up man-a few months back (cant remember if it was here or RAWK) there was a thread about meeting players at Melwood, some lad said he got chatting to Kacaniklic's parents there as he was just signing.Anyway that same day I came across an article on NewsNow saying that he was about to be released/not going to be offered an extension. Hes impressed me too like-had just assumed he was being let go after the Youth Cup like so many others
Kennedy, Scott and O'Conner are the only 3 i heard were let go... Yep, the problem with Kacaniklic was, that the Mancs and Chelsea were trying to poach him from us... and untill he turned 17 (and could sign a pro-contract) there were very little that we could do about. it.. (we're having the same problem now with Andre Wisdom) Kacaniklic turned 17 around the start of last season, but he didn't sign the contract untill January (i think) so maybe there were some talk that he might have left, but there were never no chance of him getting the boot...
Thought he may have got a move myself, but cant say I know enough about him to say whether he would have deffo deserved it or if its just his name that makes him stand out in my mind.
