he was prob asked would he like a move to Barca/Madrid esp with south america prob going crazy at the moment with the news of Kaka and he said yes. Why wouldn he they are massive clubs and growing up its a south americians dream to play for either two clubs and not in england. He will end up there some day, along with Torres/Reina and co all eventually moving on its part of the package when signing foreign players

Considering our financial troubles, Alonso wanting to go its no surprise all these stories are cropping up as I doubt its hard to get a comment or two out from an agent pimping his players.

Not saying Id agree to it but £25m-£30m for him with Jay Spearing being given a chance to do the job in CM someone who would die for first team spot is a possibility.

I now eagerly await the 'Spearings crap' 'Mashers the greatest player since sliced bread and is going nowhere not even for £100m' backlash to that sugestion ;)

I love Jay Spearing but hes never even made a league start so trusting him to take over from the Argentina captain is just ridiculous imo.

I dont think Spearing will cement a place as a regular in next seasons league line ups but i can see him play most of our CL games in the group stages. No one would deny the lad deserves a chance but can you realistically say you would fire him into a league starting 11 Graham?

i think spearing is definitely good enough to take lucas' place in the squad - the guy busts a gut every time he plauys. if masch does go it'll prob be for 30m or so coz he's only 24. u could get a decent holding midfielder from italy or spain for 10m (ok, maybe not as good as masch but good enough maybe) and stil ahve 20m to spend elsewhere. it looks like rafa will have to sell one of either masch OR alonso if he wants cash to spend - he probably just has to decide who's easiest to replace i reckon

I only put him up as an option if Masher went Ronan, purely on the basis we'd need to fork out for a replacement, granted he has no experience but Maschs job has always been busting a gut breaking up opposition play as he's never been asked or expected to contribute in an attacking sense.

JS has to get experience somehow so avoid being one of the many many nearly men, and a decent pre-season and a kind early fixture list would help him no end bed in, he to me is more in the Masch mould than Lucas who Im sure Rafa would have as heir aparant if he couldnt buy are replacement should the unthinkable happen and we lose Masch.

I agree, if the unthinkable did happen and we didnt replace Masch, I'd rather take a chance on Spearing than settle for Lucas replacing Masch as he cant cover the ground as much as Masch or Spearing

Yeah exactly. Sure it was only a few weeks ago Masch was bigging up playing for Liverpool and encouraging Tevez to join him.

At the end of the day Mascherano still has 3/4 years left on his contract I think so unless Rafa decides to sell him he's going nowhere!

This story is a load of old cobblers.
Mascherano ousting Xavi or Iniesta? I know they are a fundamentally different type of player, but IMO Masch doesn't have the vision or technique of those two. Silly season has started.

What do Xavi and Iniesta have to do with it? He doesn't play in their position?

If you watch him play Spearing is more like Alonso than he is Mascherano, he's super distribution scores goals and he can tackle.

Exactly.Hes not even a proper holding midfielder like Masch is in any case.Plessis plays that role for the reserves.I would say that Jay is most like Stevie in his younger days from what Ive seen of him.he's more box-to-box and all action-as you said he can score goals, pick a pass and hold his own in a 50-50.Wish he was a bit taller for his own sake but if he's good enough,he'll still make it.
