I wanted Distin when he was available on a free. He has been poor of late. I wouldnt even take him on a free now. Promote a kid from the ressies or youth team

Don't be panicing - we already have 3 quality Centre Halves so if Distin does come it will only be to play in games like the Carling Cup or games against lesser opposition ...

Distin will know that himself ...

The media clutching at straws on this one me thinks. We were linked with him when he went on a free to Pompey. That's the only reason this story has come out. Especially on site such as Goal.com I would take with a pinch of salt.

The echo have a small bit about distin today

    http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/live...rtsmouth-fc-s-silvain-distin-100252-23788141/

LIVERPOOL are set to launch a £2million bid to sign Portsmouth defender Sylvain Distin.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez is in the market for a new centre-back following the departure of Sami Hyypia to Bayer Leverkusen and believes the 31-year-old Frenchman fits the bill.

Distin only has one year left on his contract at Fratton Park and recently admitted his future was uncertain.

“Right now I expect to be here next season but I’m not in touch with anyone and tomorrow things can change,†he said.

“There may be a new manager with his players and I won’t play. A lot of things can happen in the coming months.

“All I want to do is go away on holiday, relax and refresh my mind and then I will come back and see what happens.â€

Bolton and Tottenham have also been linked with a move for the versatile 6ft 3ins defender who can play centre-back or left-back.

Distin started his career at French non-league side Joue-les-Tours and had spells at Tours and Gueugnon before he was snapped up by Paris St-Germain in 2000.

He spent the 2001/02 campaign on loan at Newcastle before making a £4million move to Manchester City.

These type of players are just going to end up being the deadwood at the club that we'll all be wanting to get rid of so lets just avoid signing them in the first place.

Hyppia had to play alot of games last season because Agger is injury prone and Skrtel got that injury against City so we do need another Centre half. If Rafa doesnt have faith in the young lads then they must not be good enough. I would like to see them given a chance but if he is bringing in another center half there is no point in bringing in a 22-23 year old who can be a good player in the future he needs to bring in premiership experience and Distin has that

2 million would be good, I retract my comments about the media reports :p -- considering the ECHO are reporting it as well. It would be a steal to have him as a back up but his personality worries me slighty. Had the chance 3 years ago to join us but decided to go to Pompey.
