Just wanted to forget about the match tonight asap. Worst one for a long time under rafa.
Big match on sunday aswell. Spurs having really bad season but we seem to have lost our way.
Time for the lads to stand up to the plate and be counted imo.
COME OOOOOON!
Looking forward to that game seems like the only therapy now, I want to see a big response from the lads, and lets get out of this mini bad run at home.
Really need to get a good result here too, our next league is against Everton. Away. Early on Saturday. After international games. Just thought I'd get that one in before Rafa ;)

I'm not too confident about the game. I wasn't at the start of the night and I'm not now. By the law of averages they have to put in a big performance eventually and for all their poor defending theres no denying they have talented attacking players with pace to burn. We really need to turn things around to get a result.

this is turning into a huge game now after the performance last night, spurs have caused us problems in the past and we will really need to improve a lot from last night to beat them, also its before the international break

spurs will be tricky like us they are not playing well at the moment their defence and keeper are having a tough time hopefully we can take advantage of that
next game against the blue noses need a win against spurs

I know its a bit early to say this but our season could hang in the balance depending on this result!!
a big performance is needed!

I think I have heard the time for the players to stand up and be counted thing after 4 or 5 games already this seaon not good at the start of October with a tough month ahead of us. Last night was meant to be the bloody easy match!!!

I'd say the players got a rollocking last night, pure muck.
As someone said last night, since paco left the results and performances have dipped

I'd say the players got a rollocking last night, pure muck.
As someone said last night, since paco left the results and performances have dipped
Paco didnt pick the team, Paco didnt give the team talks, Paco didnt come up with the tactics and the players havent suddenly become unfit because he is not coaching them.
Its a coinsidence nothing more.

some thing is not right at the moment
porto 1-1
birmingham 0-0
wigan 1-0
marseille 0-1
these are teams we should be beating, whats your reasoning behind the current issues then

All this talk about a good start...then they forget about the next bit. Im worried to be honest, Spurs, Everton, Besiktas and Arsenal i think is up next. Yes take 1 game at a time but a big few weeks ahead. Paco's departure...very hard to judge the impact, put it like this ...it didnt help

Champions league table looks bad at teh minute
1 Marseille 6
2 FC Porto 4
3 Liverpool 1
4 Besiktas 0
4 very tough premiership games coming up, think blackburn away is in there aswell
Rafa, cop the fcuk on
megager
04-10-2007, 04:28 PM
Its a very bad table. If we draw in turkey, beat them at anfield, draw with porto at anfield and beat marsaille in france, we will end up with 9 points. We wont qualify with that. I dont fancy us to win all 4 games (porto could even beat us).
Something is seriously a miss. If we dont see a performance on Saturday, then I would genuinly fear for our season.
Rafa may be seen to be untouchable, but he has spent a lot and the yanks will expect a return. IMO there should be no pressure on him, but I remember a time when Messiur Houllier was lauded as the saviour. When the crowd turned on him there was no come back.
Am I correct in saying that the boos and whistles we heard last night were the loudest in any of rafas tenure. Certainly miles away from the half hour rafa song at PSV.
We as fans need to be patient, true, but to serve up the muck of the past 4 weeks is completely unacceptable. The guys need to look at them selves for solutions and not external factors. Yes the Paco thing was destabilising, and I was worried for one. But these guys are highly paid professionals and lets face it Paco going is no more unsettling than Mourinho going, yet that morgue boss was able to grind out a great win at the Mastella.
Come on guys, we will support you through thick and thin, but make it easy for us. Stuff Spurs. A torres hattrick would do the trick

Alrite people lets get back to talking about Spurs and not the Champions League.
Spurs are playing their European match a day later than us and in a different country - Greece.
Even though they are through and may rest a few players it still suits us better than them.
I assume Pennant will be back as im sure his sending off only relates to European matches so thats a bonus and Sissoko probably wont start or if he does cant ever be that poor again.
Going to look at a few stats of our previous matches against Spurs.
For all you worriers and doubters out there it seems we will definitely not lose,we may draw but even thats unlikely, but lose - not a chance (i hope).
Liverpool have won the last 3 meetings of the sides all to nil (2 of those 3 games have been at Anfield).
The last time Spurs beat Liverpool was in the 2003/2004 season at White Hart Lane – 8 meetings ago.
The last time Liverpool lost at home to Spurs (in all competitions) was in the the League Cup in the 1998/99 season (1-3).
Liverpools last defeat at home in the League to Spurs (1-2) was back in the 1993/94 season (with 2 goals for Teddy Sheringham and 1 for Nigel Clough)
The last 10 meetings in the League between the sides reads like this
Liverpool 5
Spurs 1
Draw 4
The last 10 meetings in the League at Anfield reads like this
Liverpool 8
Spurs 0
Draw 2
Liverpools home form in the League this season reads
Played 3
Won 1
Drawn 2
Lost 0
Spurs away form in the League this season reads
Played 4
Won 0
Drawn 2
Lost 2
We are unbeaten in the PL this season while Spurs have
Played 8 - Won 1 - Drawn 3 and Lost 4
That only win being at home to Derby County - 4:0
They have lost AWAY to Sunderland and Mancs and drawn AWAY with Fulham and Bolton.
So i think we can see from the above, its unlikely Spurs will win but its up to us to go for the win, as Spurs really are struggling this season.
No point in sitting back and playing tight,we cant afford to drop any points.

Spurs remind me of keegans newcastle. Every time they attack, they look like scoring. But in defence they are all over the place. 0-0 then.

I have us down with giving them a 4-0 hiding. Kuyt to get off the mark with a brace (so I can finally get some decent points in my FF with him as captain)

The trick is not to let Spurs away with a draw like we have done in the past. Good solid defending should keep them out and the rollicking mid week should (excuse the pun) spur us on to victory!!
PS as for the Champ League- we will win our next 4 games with minimal fuss.
There is no doubt in my mind that Rafa will not put up with a performance close to as abysmal as we have been recently.
El Iano

I think we could struggle again on Sunday. We've really missed Xabi in the home games. Benayoun should be aloud to roam to give us some creativity.
Momo has been poor. Mascerano is a better bet in the home games, doesn't give the ball away as much.
I'd like to see Babel play up front with Torres for a change.
We need to get the tempo right on Sunday from the first minute, otherwise, Spurs will settle and we Sami and Carra could be exposed by Berbatov & Keane.

Does anyone reckon Hyypia will get a game tomorrow, with Arbeloa back fit?
Hyypia would be under alot of pressure if he plays tomorrow, as it's obvious they'll play Bent etc and play the ball in behind him...
Patrick_H
06-10-2007, 12:28 PM
Performance aside i think the most important thing tomorrow is 3points! i dont care if its another Wigan type performance! If we dont win we are going into our next few games under serious pressure. Everton Away and Arsenal Home with a trip to turkey thrown in between them!

Some rubbish defending. We do miss agger but even with Agger and Carragher in the team you sometimes feel we could do with a centre half who is a bit more dominant in the air. Hyppia should give us that but lost out twice to Berbatov for the goals. The defending of the 2nd ball was awful then for the goals, simply not good enough, especially when it happens twice. Could all have been very different if gerrard's free kick had gone in and between himself, Voronin and Torres they had converted another easy chance. Only positive is we are still unbeaten. Arsenal can't keep winning games at the rate they are. They look unbelievable up front but shakey at the back and will drop points when tested against bigger teams. If we don't sort out our form quickly though we wont be challenging come March, April again

People need to relax, true we are not playing well but we are still unbeaten in the league, every season we have a run where we don't play well but the difference this season is we are not losing like previous seasons.
We have a very good squad of players who are well capable of putting a good run together in the league, the trophy gets handed out in may not september or october.

you cany have a go at him for not signing a defender, he was confident we would get Heinze but we all know what happened there. If Sami Hyypia couldnt beat Berbatov in the air for the goals, DAniel Agger wouldt either. Shit goas to concede. I am very worried to be honest. Rafa goes on about creating chances...but I dont know what chances he is talking about.

It is clear that a certain degree of rotation is necessary. But Rafa is peeing me off now. Not because of anything thats happening in the real world, but he is really screwing my fantasy football teams. I feel like wrting to the club and threatening legal action for the malicious assault on my sanity by this so-called spaniard. Rafa must go!!!!!!!
Anyway in seriousness, I am ok with a draw today, it was important not to lose. If we beat the bitters and arsenal then all will rosey again. I for one would prefer see a settled side, as you maximise your chances of winning more games (United{with the exceptions of those imposed by injury} and Arsenal have all been very settled so far). Look at united, they rotate really only when they either have injuries or if they have 3 games in a week.
The international break is a welcome one now. Hopefully the infirm will rehabilitate quickly (we are missing Agger and alonso big time). Rafa needs to move for a centre half as a matter of great urgency in january. While we had been ok until today, I fear that Hyppia is aging faster than if he had progeria and is so slow now he is in danger of being over taken by stationary objects. Vincent Kompany would do for me.
By the way the rafa must go is a skit. In case I get any angryanthrax-laced PMs. Give it time. It will look better after we pick up 6 points in the next 2 games.

Presumed the Rafa must go was brainmush anyway...
For the width of a post we we're 2 - 0 and cruising, Sammi loses two headers and doesn't get beaten for pace...transfer window my arse...
Alonso & Agger injured at the same time & the entire squad can't stand up ... oh rotation & Rafa must go. If they we're working for me....written warning at least...all of them....including the 'fans'

Two very very poor goals to concede but the finger cant be pointed I feel at Sammi, he may have no pace anymore but he was beaten in the air for both goals and he is still dominant in the air. Agger is good on the deck not in the air so if Sammi countly have won those balls Agger wouldnt have either.
How Keane was able to waltz on to 2 flick ons in the middle of our box needs to be seriously looked at.
On the positive side at least Liverpool yesterday looked like the team we saw at the start of the season. If we beat the blue noses next game all will be forgotten.

its hard to take any positives from sundays game!
where is it all going wrong??
i think agger is a huge loss, our defending yesterday was shocking!
our season will be left in tatters unless we get our act together!!

The only things Im worried about is if we dont pick up 6 points in the next 2 games, and they way we are playing thats a big 'if'we will have gone from being considered genuine title challengers to all but out of the race.....again. Which means Rafa will switch his priorities mainly to the Champions League.....again.
Rafa was rotating at the start of the season and all was going well. Alonso wasnt playing all the time before the injury so I dont accept the loss of Agger and Alonso as being the reason for the loss of form.
There is something wrong somewhere that we are not aware of. The pathetic displays we have seen over the last month have been caused by something because I cannot believe a team of internationals could ALL lose form at the same time, ALL look like they dont know what they are doing on the pitch.
Even a players own pride woundnt allow them to put in the performaces they have been doing and that includes Carra and he is the 1 person who you can put your house on giving 100% and he seems out of sorts and he has played alongside Sammi for years so that is no excuse.
Not sure Agger would have made a big difference. Berbatov is world class in the air - if sami's not dealing then we don;t have a player who can

Hopefully Stephen Taylor will sign in January. But Whilst i dont think Sami should have been beatin by Berbatov in the air you cannot blame him totally. Carra and Steve finnan should have done better also. Rafa never stops goin on about 2nd balls. I bet Robbie keane wont be as clinical on Saturday:mad:
very poor game yesterday i know we have huge problems in the back and we definately are missing agger but we also have huge problems up front passing in front of the goal we made so many stupid passes up front and we are more aless given the opposition the ball.

at least we scored 2 goals!!!
just about we should have scored more than that and we sadly had the chances

keane took his goals well but no one tracked him for both until it was too late seemed a lack of communication between sami and carra.
i do believe the defense is missing agger .sami's(a legend and should be put out to stud to breed more great defenders)lack of pace means the whole back line does nt push up as high as usual
we made spurs look better by not winning the 2nd ball
would agree with kopite stephen taylor could be a good signing

Not sure about taylor, he would prob cost a bomb, but we need someone at CB.
very lucky to get a draw at home.
what was the point of buying babel for 10 mill if he doesnt play him?
really disappointed with our lack lusture shows lately.
If it continues i can see people getting on rafa's back

I'm Already on his back! He's a complete plonker! to be honest.
I'm confused at this point, how the players are expected to play as a team when they don't get a chance to gel together is beyond me! Babel should be playing, and given his chance.
Our great squad is not looking so great now! And that is down to the managers refusal to drop the rotation systems until the players learn to gel with each other.

a few months ago...in fact a few weeks ago I would have had a go at you for slagging the manager but now I don't know. I still don't agree with you... but his methods/philosophies are getting harder and harder to understand. But we still have gotta to trust him and support him, its all right ranting here and there but a few results the other way and we will be winning the league again. Patience and perspective are needed IMO but rant away mate :) :)

just play voronin at centre half!!
twice yeterday he was the furthest player back and he made good last ditch tackles but each time he did it, I thought he was gonna give away a penalty.
thought he and torres worked well together up front
is agger back for the next game, I remember when he was injured the derby game was mentioned for a comeback?

Kop, its not a rant, it's thje way i feel about our manager. Our problem is excuses, excuses, excuses. Every other team in the league plays its best team, United, Chelski, Arsenal, Spurs, etc they don't drop their best players, they change after going couple of goals up! We find ourselves now 6 points behind the leaders, and now hoping they drop them points for us to have a chance of winning the title, think in total Mancs lost 3 games before winning title last year and chelski the year before that.
We need to stop this support the manager crap! he clearly has lost the players, some fans, and points as for last 3 years. He needs to deliver this season or his position should be reviewed.
I hope i'm wrong and we go on to win the title, but can't see it happening if he continues the way he has the team running around like headless chickens because they havent played with certain players, the Marseille game was a good example as they looked like the home team and we were out played!! Just my Opinion!!!!:(

i hear ya brother, and i agree with some of the points, cant afford anymore slip ups. I think that the departure of paco, is having an influence on teh team. I also think the lack of trust in the manager, regards to team choice is taking its toll.
i know what i would be thinking if i was a senior player and saw sissoko and leto in the starting 11 for a champions leaue match - id be gutted.
We need our starting 11 to be practicing together, making moves and planning one two scenarios, getting confidence to go on and shoot at goal. Last week was a prime example, gerrard played a through ball through to think it was voronin, voronin didnt have the confidence to shoot and passes the ball back to gerrard who fluffs teh shoot

I dont agree with the confidence issue that I think applies only to Crouch as he is basically running down the clock until he is shown the door in January and everyone knows it, Voronin has already scored 4 this season and to be looks eager and sharp, as does Torres and Kuyt, even though he hasnt gotten a league goal yet.
The only things I believe you can practice are set plays which we know they do.
A team thats scored 25 plus goals in 13 games this season is not lacking in confidence in front of goal its the ability of the midfield to give the strikers opportunities. I think the Voronin chance you are talking about was coming on to his weaker side and saw Stevie so laid it back for him to run on to. We have seen Stevie score loads of goals like this so if it had gone in it would have been fantastic set up play but because Stevie made a mess of it Voronin gets accused of not having the confidence to take the shot on despite having already scored.
