i smell that smell its that time of year again,to quote the stereophonics.yes its championship time,i know mayo and new york played last week but some good games this week that might actually be played above training pace.as for my own team meath,im travelling to croker june 7th with no expectations at all, however if we pull off a shock it will be a great summer. to kick off the discussion heres my fancies for this year Ulster- Tyrone Leinster-Dublin Munster-Kerry Connaught-Galway All Ireland-Galway,a good outside bet imo HURLING Leinster-Kilkenny(hardly rocket science) Munster-Cork(point to prove) All Ireland-Kilkenny yet again, maybe if I was betting Id do Tiippeary for better value though
C'mon the Dubs!! And Meath suck ass that is all. PS Just kidding, and please keep this thread sensible and plenty of banter, and no sh!te. Lot of similar threads have ended in rows
Agree with most of that but there is no way in hell we(cork) are going to win munster this year Kilkenny will walk the all ireland with Tipp the only ones to give them a game and I can see the football semi finalists being Tyrone,Kerry,Cork & Dublin. Keep an eye on the dubs hurlers aswell-ive been very impressed how much theyve improved over the last few years and anthony daly was a great apointment.Would not be shocked to see them in the leinster final.
ya, highly doubt cork will get past tipp in the first round in the hurling but the qualifers may help them get back on track. despite my obvious bias, i think the cork footballers can win both the munster and all-ireland titles. the team as a whole is very strong and for the first time ever, i believe the rebels have a bench that compares favourably to Kerry and they are properly prepared this year. Last year they ran kerry close in an all-ireland semi replay despite missing pre-season and their first 2 games of the league.
Dublin hurlers definitely ones to watch. Dublin getting good aka national media interest in hurling would do wonders for the game and the GAA might start to get their act together and promote what is the superior gaelic game properly.
OOOOOH CONTROVERSIAL there Niall........even though I completely agree btw Dublin have come on leaps and bounds-have seen them live playing Cork 3 times in the last 3 years and they have improved every time-even giving us a good beating in the league. At homeAlthough we were in even more of a mess then than we are now! Not too many outstanding young Cork hurlers coming through at the moment and with Dublins population and growing interest I think they could well emerge as kilkennys main challengers in 7-8 years time. Whats your local club btw Niall?Have met a fair few lads from different Kilkenny clubs down the years at the Kilmacud 7's.
Its the superior game in Kilkenny no doubt. Do Kilkenny not enter the Football Championship in protest at the lack of promotion of Hurling? I like watching the big hurling matches on tv, but you cannot even see the sliotar in Croke Park unless your in the first row. You rely on the umpires to let you know if there has been a score
I said it kinda tongue in cheek, although it those irk me a small bit the way hurling always has to play second fiddle to football. I do think the GAA haven't promoted the game in the right way. Too much mystism cuchullain warrior game crap which is fine for promoting hurling as a cultural novelty is to tourists but not promoting the game in ireland. Not enough is being done by the GAA to promoting the game outside the traditional heartland. I know that is a bit rich for me as a kilkenny man, due to our lack of interest in football and it has been ignored in the county for a long time. The fact is most people have very little interest in it. It's not a deliberate action to ensure hurling standards are kept high. The football championship is nationwide and is very competive. Its easier for counties too make the step up with the right coaching etc. (we being the exception, fcuking useless) but with hurling its much more difficult. Dublin have been pouring money in hurling for years now are only now approaching a decent standard. Dropping standards and attendances are a real problem for hurling and its worrying with an ever increasing competive football championship capturing the publics imagination. The GAA needs to get of their arses and stop the game from dying out down the line. And in Kilkenny we know if ever we lose sight of the ball at Croke Park its usually in the back of the opponent's net.
Football Connacht-Galway Ulster-Derry Munster-kerry Leinster-Dublin All-Ireland-Cork Hurling Munster-Tipperary Leinster-Kilkenny All-Ireland-Kilkenny I think Cork are a good bet @ 9/1 to win the football ths year. Thats were my money is going.
if cork people are saying cork wont win the munster hurling then it must be true what did ye think of the sunday game last night.the highlights of the louth game were a disgrace.the programme was on for an hour and a half they couldve spent fifteen minutes on each game and still had an hour for the shite talk.the only bonus was the highlights were over in time for MOTD2
Would be over the moon if Dublin could reach the final in Leinster but it's unlikely with the arrival of Galway in their 2, would of having to dodge Kilkenny anyway to make it to the final but it's even more difficult now..
Will need the luck of the open draw in the semi's Kilkenny V Galway Dublin/Antrim V offaly/Wexford Would be interesting Looks more interesting than munster this year
I think nobody can live with killkenny. So i think they`ll win the hurling.Tipp, maybe Galway and cork could give them a game other than those three i can`t see a serious challenge to their crown. Football is a lot more open, cork could be dark horses there.
Football Connacht-Galway Ulster-Armagh Munster-kerry Leinster-Dublin All-Ireland-Kerry, tho if armagh weren't to win it i'd like to see Galway Hurling Munster-Tipperary Leinster-Kilkenny All-Ireland-Kilkenny
Would agree with Kilkenny in the hurling and Kerry in the football. Hope I'm wrong about Kerry though
