http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,16368,2483_5262394,00.html I wonder if he just wants a pay rise?
lads,he says in an interview on skysportsnews that he will assess his future at the end of the season,he says anything can happen in football, and that a big club could offer massive money that the club couldnt refuse, real madrid probably
I've been less impressed with him at times this season and i think he's been pretty poor in a lot of games, especially against smaller teams when we need him to get on the ball and get things going, but we really need him for the big ones, the man has been a one man show in a lot of our big games this season! It sounds like he's almost expecting to be sold, i wonder whats going on!
The usual...how much of this is a reporter digging and twisting words...lost in translation. Every player will say the exact same thing....who knows whats going to happen in the future, if someone expresses an interest of course you are going to consider it (unless it's SCUM)
he said he's happy at liverpool - but if the club got a big offer and said he had to go then he would have to go. whats wrong with that - its the same with any player in the world! Masch wont be going anywhere
All he said is that its possible for a club to come in and offer big money for him and he be sent packing. I wouldn't read too much into it
I get the impression off him he likes the club. So I cant see him leaving unless he is forced out. He would definately command a big fee
Rafa wont let him go.... He is part of the spine of the team so it would be silly to let him go...id hate too see him go as he's one of my favourite players behind stevie and torres... reckon its just words being twisted....
Benitez also brushed off speculation in this morning's newspapers linking Javier Mascherano with a move away from the club. "I was talking with Javier earlier and everything is okay," he added. "He is really pleased here because he knows the fans love him. He can't avoid big clubs asking about him because he is a top class player, but he is very happy here."
i think it would take a seriously huge offer for player and club to part way's. He is a big game player, never goes missing when it counts most. he's not going anywhere for a long time.
Figured it out lads, Aggers long term speculation is coming to an end today or soon so the press have nothing to print so they blow this out or proportion!!bit of a coincidence they were both leaked on the same day
RAFA: MASCH SNUBBED A MOVE Posted 01/05/09 16:21EmailPrintSave Liverpool 2/7, Draw 19/5, Newcastle 11/1 Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has revealed Argentina captain Javier Mascherano has turned down an approach by an unnamed club. The Liverpool boss is preparing his side for Sunday's crucial Barclay's Premier League clash with Newcastle at Anfield aware that the 25-year-old's position at the club has been undermined. Mascherano is only 15 months into a four-year contract, but Benitez held talks with him following the midfielder's own claims that he was unsure about his own future on Merseyside. Benitez refused to name the club concerned but it is understood the approach did not come from either Italy or Spain. That suggests a British club could be involved because it is unlikely that a club from anywhere else could match the player's wages or likely fee. However Benitez has been quick to defuse the situation saying: "Javier is happy here with the fans, the club and the manager. I have had a very positive conversation with him. "He has already said no to one club, a good side. He wants to stay but he cannot stop big clubs asking about him. "If you are a top-class player, people are always asking about you. They will know if there are four or five big clubs asking for them and the player would be proud of that. "He has tried to be polite and correct. Now I have had a conversation with him and it was very clear he wants to continue to play for us. I do not see this as a big problem. "The conversation with him was very honest and he was very clear about things. "These things happen always in football, clubs all around the world will work like this. It is just part of the situation that exists at the top level. "You just have to handle it and work with the situation when it arises. "Clearly we do not want to lose key players. Players like Mascherano and Xabi Alonso have long contracts so we are in a strong position, while we are very close now to sorting out Daniel Agger's position here. "He wants to stay and maybe we will soon have a solution to that problem because Danny is a player with a big future here." Liverpool expect to announce soon that Agger has ended months of uncertainty about his future by agreeing a new deal. But Benitez, who has also denied he plans to sell Alonso, could have done without the distraction surrounding Mascherano as Liverpool face their last four league games and a continuing race to catch Manchester United at the top of the table. Mascherano did not help the situation himself by declaring earlier today that if Liverpool did receive a bid and want to sell him, he would have to go. Mascherano said: "I cannot say anything bad about Liverpool as a city or as a club because they have been great with me. "But obviously you never know what is going to happen because if some club can come here with a good offer and the club says 'okay you have to go' then I will leave - you just don't know." Benitez admits he may have to discuss a new contract for Mascherano in the future. He said: "If you have to talk about improving his contract it will not be now, maybe in the summer. "He has a long time still to go on his contract so it is not something that will happen just yet." Benitez also revealed that he knows his transfer budget and says: "No manager ever has enough money but you must work with what you have. "We are working hard monitoring players but I will not give out names. "But if you are going for very expensive players then you have to manage. There is a financial crisis around the world so things are difficult but if we have to sell someone maybe we will have to do that. "But we have several players out on loan that we could sell. It is not about selling our key players, that will not happen. "I have been talking to Mascherano today about what he has been saying and we understand each other." Benitez dodged the question asking if he would like to reunite Carlos Tevez with Mascherano in his side. He said: "I will not talk about other teams' players. I am just looking for Javier to play well and even score for us on Sunday. That is my only concern. "But we want to keep key players here like Alonso. On that I am very clear about the situation." Benitez will have skipper Steven Gerrard back after a four-game absence following a groin problem to face the Geordies, who are stuck in the relegation zone and three points away from safety. http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8652_5264560,00.html The Mascher going nowhere
Calm down as it was said earlier it is coming into silly season. People over reacting before they know the full facts
On the topic of Masch turning down the offer does that mean that liverpool would have accepted the bid or is the player approached directly?
No doubt he answered some questions from a reporter honestly, then the reporter twisted the answers to try and get a story published .... The lad is going no where, he loves LFC & (we) the fans love him .... I just wish he'd practice his goal scoring a little more now and again Well, LFC is a commercial enterprise with two money hungry Yanks as owners, so I fear if the offer is right, any of our players could in theory, be sold .... hopefully, Rafa's got a very tight grip of their contracts though.
