without been able to listen to the link cause im in work,

a tender goes out and whoever offers the cheapest contract wins, you cant restrict it to just irish companies under EU law i think,

what companies are they? cause as far as i know any state company that has a contract above a certain amount has to go for tender

Not necessarily always the cheapest. There are other factors taken into account like, ability to complete the contract, previous experience around similar projects etc ...

Sometimes you pay for what you get so awarding contracts to the "cheapest" tender isn't always the smartest thing to do!

yea thats true, i was just been simplistic about it

i know of a large semi state company that awarded a massive contract to a english company and basicaly they couldnt do the work at the price after a few months and they got bombed...

it is a flawed process(no perfect system) but it has reduced the cost of government contracts since it was introduced(about 10 years too late)

a major factor in english company getting the more recent contracts is the devaluation of sterling against the euro which make british companies more competitive in the tendering process
