Limerick punter scores a massive €650,000 win THE STARS - 17 of them perhaps - were aligned for one Limerick punter at the weekend as he who won a whopping €650,000 from a €5 accumulator bet he placed at a Ladbrokes store in the City. With an accumulator bet predicting the outcome of 17 different soccer fixtures, the winner - a construction worker who is on protective notice at his job - bagged the biggest single payout ever made to one winner in the history of Ladbrokes Ireland. Out of respect for his co-workers, who could be laid off in the coming weeks, the winner has decided to remain anonymous. "This will change my life," said the mystery man after collecting his payout - the fifth largest ever made by Ladbrokes worldwide. "I've been on protective notice at my job so for my wife and family this could not come at a better time." The Ladbrokes Soccer Quickslip - on which the winning bet was made - rolls the winnings over from each bet on to the next selection as the results come in. When combined, the Limerick bettor's predictions were given odds of 130,000-1 of all being on the money at the Ladbrokes store last Saturday. Amongst the more nail-biting results the Limerick man was hoping for were games involving Liverpool and Manchester United who both scored deep in injury time to win. Another accurately-predicted but unlikely win also transpired last weekend as 10-man Birmingham defeated top of the table Wolves in the Championship. Charyn White, marketing manager with Ladbrokes, said the €650,000 paid out to the lucky punter was the largest ever winnning bet made on soccer results in Ireland. "All our competitors fix their payouts for soccer fixtures to €500,000 whereas ours is one million euro so we can guarantee this is the biggest cheque ever given out for a series of soccer bets," said Charyn. "He actually handed in the winning slip to our store on Grand Canal Street in Dublin," she continued. "Although he lives in Limerick and made the winning bet at our Davis Street store, he travels to Dublin between Monday and Friday for work in the construction industry. He seemed to have his head on his shoulders, mind you. One of the first things he said he would buy with the winnings is a house, he can afford to get one in Limerick and Dublin now."
Excellent stuff!! Its almost impossible to pick that amount of the teams, as pointed out below there last minute winners were in it.
Great win for him ... I read a little abhout this elsewhere yesterday, you should have seen some of the predictions he was making ... talk about the most unusual set of bets you'd ever think off !
