Saw this in the examiner today. Noel Hunt is claiming he scored the goal against the Italians Hunt: I scored the goal against Italians A dispute has arisen today as to who scored the Republic of Ireland's equalising goal against Italy in last night's World Cup qualifier. The 87th-minute goal in Bari rescued a vital Group Eight point for Giovanni Trapattoni's side, and has been credited to captain Robbie Keane. However, Noel Hunt later claimed he was the last man to get a touch to the ball, and confirmed this evening he has taken up the matter officially. Tottenham frontman Keane appeared to stab the ball past Gianluigi Buffon during last night’s game, but closer examination of the footage would appear to show the Reading striker has some claim to the glory. "I called the FAI first and then just had to make sure that they had video evidence," Waterford man Hunt told his local radio station Beat 102-103 this evening. "They think I have grounds for an appeal so it's a matter I will go looking at." The issue of who got the goal has been a subject of debate in papers and on the internet since full-time last night, and the Reading striker thinks he deserves acknowledgement for it. “It would be a great start for me for my international career,” Hunt said. “You know I played a friendly there against Poland, so to come on and play some way well and contribute and score a goal against the World Champions in a World Cup qualifier is massive.”
Thought these quotes were class: "I saw the ball coming down and Caleb Folan getting the knock down. Robbie was there and we both went for it but I got a toe to it and it went in. I went one way to celebrate and Robbie went the other. Eventually I had to join in with them but I was on top of Robbie shouting: 'It's my goal, it's my goal'. "It was only my second cap and to score against the world champions, I can never forget that. I am going to look into how it is looked at, what channels you have got to go through, through Uefa and stuff and see what happens because I do firmly believe it was my goal" - Noel Hunt. "I did better. I didn't remember the first half. I didn't even know they had scored. I got concussed in the first minute and I didn't know where I was until half-time. I was hit in the head from a Pirlo free-kick and I didn't even remember them scoring" - Stephen Hunt. "There are certain players who are very enthusiastic. For example, Stephen (Hunt) for five minutes was wondering 'where am I' after he was hit in the head by the ball. He and his brother are very similar" - Giovanni Trapattoni.
Thats very good alright Looks like it was Keanes alright. Heres a link if anyones interested. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNbJaQu1jz8&feature=related
Hopefully Hunt will look at that clip and keep his mouth shut about this particular topic in future. Shouldn't matter who scored, if Ireland are to qualify for the world cup its going to have to be a full on team effort as individually the talent just isn't there. Hunt coming out with stuff like this isn't exactly portraying it being a team effort.
My thoughts exactly. Stephen Hunt has had a lot to say in the past also for a fella who has so little done in the game but seems to have copped on hopefully Noel will have learned his lesson too.
although when I saw the goal on wednesday I said to lads what's keane running around for hunt scored that!!
Yeah, absolutely ridiculous crap to be coming out with. The management team should have words with Hunt, last thing we need is stupid arguments between team mates over who scored the goal. It was definitely Keane's goal.
