    Seen this on .tv
One legend talking about another !

French legend Zinedine Zidane has today labelled Steven Gerrard as the best player in world football.
The former Real Madrid man saw his old club torn apart by a Gerrard inspired Liverpool in midweek as the Reds cruised into the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

"Is he the best in the world? He might not get the attention of Lionel Messi and Ronaldo but yes, I think he just might be," said Zidane.

"If you don't have a player like Steven Gerrard, who is the engine room, it can affect the whole team.

"When we were winning league titles and European Cups at Real, I always said Claude Makelele was our most important player.

"There is no way myself, Luis Figo or Raul would have been able to do what we did without Claude and the same goes for Liverpool and Gerrard.

"He has great passing ability, can tackle and scores goals, but most importantly he gives the players around him confidence and belief.

"You can't learn that - players like him are just born with that presence."

Yeah you only had to see the ovation the Real Madrid fans gave him on tuesday when he was being taken off to know how respected the man is.

I know you cant compare players from different eras but in my opinion when he hangs up his boots he will be remembered as the greatest player ever to play for liverpool

And to think he nearly became a chav:(

Which zidane said this, was it the former Real star or was it Bruno (Zidane) Cheyrou

Was one of my favourite footballers to watch back in the day and i don't think there has been someone to match his vision ever since he stopped playing. Great to see the mutual respect between two of footballs greatest.

I believe all the Real fans were chanting Stevie G's name every time he ran past them during the warm down

I know what you mean. Ive forgiven Gerrard for nearly signing for Chelski, his head was all over the place, everyone on this forum has done stupid things at times. Atleast he got himself together.

I always thougt Real were mad to let Makelele go. As soon has he left there was a massive gulf between their Mid and defence.

not only is he one of the most skilled players in the world but the heart and passion he plays with for Liverpool just add that little bit to make him, in my eyes, the greatest in the world
