I am so sick of the anti Liverpool bias on RTE. What is there agenda? For a club that has had so many great Irish players in the past i am astonished that they try and cut us to ribbons. They were in their element tonight cos our performance wasnt great, yet if it was Arsenal (their latest pet team) it would have been a great gritty professional performance by the young players of Arsenal. They continue to question Rafa's philosophies when the mans record stands up to anyones in world football. I am not playing my license fee ever again. I am worse for watching it on that Man U tv station anyway. Lets hope we rub their noses in it with silverware at the end of the season like we did before
Hi mate I think most, if not all TV channels, tend to have their favorites - sadly, over years past it's often been Manc, although to be fair to Sky I think they swapped over to us last season .. or it sure seemed like it, with more live games covered (I think) etc. Like you, the RTE commentators get to me and to be honest, I'd fire off a letter of complaint if I thought it would get half a hearing .. perhaps we all should start complaining to RTE, given we fund it with our licence fees etc ? Sadly, the above does not take away from this evenings game, which we can discuss on one of the other threads and keep this one for RTE etc
I don't know why people are interested in "expert" opinions anyway. You have your own views, stick with them and don't worry about anybody else's. The RTE guys are paid for their opinion and it's in their interest to be controversial. The analysts on Sky are paid to be boring and say the right things. They're just doing their job. I only watched the match tonight so I've no idea what was said but if they did cut us to ribbons it was justified. We were dreadful.
I only watched the match tonight so I've no idea what was said but if they did cut us to ribbons it was justified. We were dreadful.[/QUOTE] Couldn't disagree with what Giles said. We made Porto look half decent tonight.
That part of my point..they were in their element becasue we were sopoor. Why are they anti Liverpool?, that is my issue, your right I shouldnt give a dam what they say but it raggs me.
i'll never forget Dunphy's response to Okey Dokey's Question at Half Time against Olympiakos in 2005 when asked what chance Liverpool had in the 2nd Half. "no chance Bill." we all know what happened after that....... after that i've learned to just Laugh at them.
For years I used to hate watching a match on RTE and would always watch on Sly Sports instead.I really used to get worked up by the things the said on RTE.Then Sly Sports and the constant hype and sitting on the fence started to get to me.Now I have learned to just laugh at the RTE lads, its just like water of a ducks back you just have to learn to disagree with them. You have to give it to the RTE lads that say whats on there mind even if its wrong 50% of the time, they way I see the RTE panel now is just like a bunch of lads in a pub talking about football. It is unique coverage you will not get anywhere else in this part of the world anyway.
Viewing figures over the last 3 years have shown that "contrary to popular belief" Liverpool & not Man united are the most watched team on Sky Sports! thats why you've started to see more Libpool games going out live & why we have more early morning kick off's..... Going back to the original question! I find Liam Brady to be the must annoying he hates libpool & is always throwing little digs at us or Rafa! I don't mind Giles he will call it as he sees it, Dunphy is just a fool that makes me laugh he just says the first & most controversial thing that pops in to this head!
Hard to disagree with a lot that Giles, Souness & Dunphy say but it's Brady who gets right up my tits - he didn't have a good thing to say about us the whole game. If something didn't come off for us it was poor, typical Liverpool and if it did there was a deafening silence - most annoying
I thought Brady called it as it was to be honest. We were extremely poor going forward but resolute at the back as he mentioned many times. No problems with his analysis at all, if anything I thought he held back a bit.
they do give liverpool a slating every now and again but i love seeing them proved wrong!! the one person i cant stand is ray houghton, especially when hes commentating!! even tho hes a ex player hes always critiscising them and telling us the way it should be done, its so annoying!! if he knew it all then why isnt he managing some team instead of commentating for a mickey mouse channel,he seriously wrecks my head!!!!
RTE commentary team are muppets.Last night was funny. They said that pennent(who up until last night has been brilliant this year)wouldnt even get into the man utd squad This is a squad that includes the likes of the mighty darren fletcher, john o'shea, wes brown to name but a few.Gimme a break.Pennent was shocking last night but in general he has shown a real dramatic improvement over the last few months and fair play to him.I find it amazing that the players that they yap on about week after week Scholes, fabergas, terry etc.... have never had a bad game. These guys have a real anti liverpool bias and it's there for all to see. When we beat a good team(Barcelona 07,juventus 05,milan 05 etc...)it's always because they bottled it or they where not the team they used to be anymore.Utter shite. We never get the credit we are due from these clowns but i for one couldnt give a shit.Id say when we bring home number 19 you will hear the usual speel about Man utd had a bad year,or Chelsea where not at the races this season.BS all of it.Vote with your wallet and dont pay your licence.I havent for years
I'm not convinced myself that the RTE guys are biased as such, it's just that they latch on to one or two aspects of the game and then exaggerate them out of all proportion. They only grab 2 or 3 clips illustrating some aspect of play, and focus on that for 15 minutes. Doing any more might be too compilcated for them The also put everything into the present tense: if Liverpool didn't pass well in a particular game (like last night), they say "Liverpool can't pass the ball". Of course that's rubbish, their memories seem to only last less than a week. To be fair, there have been nights when they praised Liverpool, and completely laid into man ure. They just give one-dimensional comments. You have to take it all with a pinch of salt. As for Dunphy, if you made a collection of his comments over the past few years you'd find him totally contradicting himself a million times.
I pay no attention to RTE at all. Especially the live football side of it. From direction/production to content, it is a joke. Anyone ever get the impression Dunphy is just bitter he was a terrible footballer who was never good enough to play for the likes of Liverpool?
I thought Brady's commentary last night was good, accurate and well judged. The panel did what they are paid to do, create controversy when there is none. We were rubbish last night for the most part and a better side would have punished us. I'd have taken 1-1 before the kick off so I'm not going to be bothered by what a few overpaid exes have to say about it.
We were very poor last night but at the end of the day.... as every one loves to say, a one all result away from home having been down to 10 men for the last half hour couldnt be classed as a bad result. Yes the performance was poor but we didnt look like really losing the game, so give the boys a chance to give out for a change, it was getting a bit boring listening to them praise us after the first few league games!!
What have Dunphy,Brady, Giles and Souness done as managers? Nothing compared to Rafa. As Souness said at the end of the programme "Bottom line, Rafa wins trophies", and nobody can argue with that. Two Champions league finals in three yrs!
How do you get away with buying a licence?? I'm in a new house with a year and still haven't got one. I assume they only check the names and address' they have on file in the past. Is it possible to slip through the net? Can we beat the system? Should we start a new thread?
