Thats right Sam, you continue to languish in the inter toto and uefa cups, ,well help ourselves to 6 points at your expense, You git!!!!
Sam Allardyce has slammed Rafael Benitez, saying he would have been "very lucky to be in a job" if he had not reached two European finals.
Allardyce insists Benitez places too much emphasis on European competition instead of launching a sustained bid for the Premier League title - but believes his success on the Continent could have saved his job.
Liverpool have finished fifth, third and third domestically under Benitez as well as winning the European Cup in 2005 and reaching the final last season.
Allardyce, speaking to Zoo magazine, said: "Rafa would be very lucky to be in a job if he hadn't got to two Champions League finals, because they have had some very, very poor finishes in the Premier League.
"While they are a very good Champions League team, they are not a Premier League-winning team yet.
"They don't have that mentality to win that yet.
"Being a foreigner, Rafa doesn't understand it's supposed to be Premier League first and Champions League second."
why did he feel the need to start this??

Hi
I think poor Sam is trying to raise his profile by attacking Rafa in this way, particularly being mindful of the fact that:
- Rafa's a gentleman, so won't be too aggressive in his responses to this little outburst by Sam, nor is Rafa likely to take it too personal.
- Rafa's one of the most respected managers in Europe at present, so any mention of Rafa by Sam, will get him some attention from the press etc
Truth be told, sure the European results have done a lot to help Rafa earn the level of respect he has with LFC fans etc. Sure, a Premiership win would be like gold to us, given it's been a while.
If you strip out the European Finals, one of which we've won, the truth is other results in UK competitions have not been a significant improvement on those achieved by Rafa's recent predecessors ... YET !!!! ... but unlike Rafa's predecessors, we as fans are still very much behind Rafa & what he's done at LFC to date so will wait a little longer, particularly if we happen to collect more prizes in Europe and funds to further strengthen the club along the way ;)
Now, if only Sam found himself is a similar position to Rafa, wouldn't he be pleased !

Could be trying to deflect attention away from his own shortcomings imo.

was absolutely shocked when i heard this outburst by sam. he has always had a chip on his shoulder about foreign managers coming into the league and taking over the big teams wheras the likes of sam wudnt get a look in. the fact is, his tatics are so one dimensional and boring, effective yes but not at a big club with world class players. he did a great job at bolton and got his reward with a even bigger job at newcastle but to publicaly abuse rafa in public like that was disgraceful. rafa came to liverpool because he was a huge success in spain. winning two leagues with valencia against the likes of madrid and barce showed he had what it took for the job and in his first year here, he took a very ordinary side with a number of poor players and won the champions league. looking back on it, that was a bloody miracle!! now 3 years later, with some indifferent league form along the way but still a solid 3rd place and another champo leagues final, we are looking stronger then ever. then newcastle go to derby and lose to an awful team and sam decides to lash out at rafa? dont understand it one bit.

Rafael Benitez has hit back at Sam Allardyce after his ludicrous claims that the Liverpool manager is lucky to still have a job.
Speaking in Zoo Magazine, the Newcastle boss insisted Benitez would have lost his job by now for his failure to win the Premier League had he not guided the Reds to two Champions League finals.
But Benitez has hit back and told Allardyce to mind his own business and concentrate on his own club.
He told Liverpoolfc.tv: "I want to say two things. Firstly, I think he should be more worried about his own business because he must have more problems than to waste time talking about other managers.
"Secondly, has he forgotten Liverpool winning the Super Cup, FA Cup and Champions League as well as reaching another Champions League final, a Carling Cup final and twice finishing third in the Premier League? Maybe he doesn't have a great memory."
