You must have them in a music folder on your computer too. just go to itunes and import that folder.
No such thing as a stupid question

Downloaded 2 cds onto itunes, went to burn cd and its telling me
"you have inserted blank dvd but originally selected a cd format. are you sure you want to creat a data dvd instead. data dvds are only usable in computers with a dvd drive. Burning a dvd may take more than an hour? WTF is going on.
If this keeps up next question going to be can you get a new screen for a laptop!

are you putting too many tracks onto the cd? make sure what you putting on doesn't go over 80 minutes or it won't fit on. you might have to delete a few of the tracks to make sure it will fit on.

Jaysus that might be it. I had 1 hour 36 mins! I was going by the 4.7gb on the disc. I'll try it. Thanks South

"will not fit" with just 9 tracks on it and no joy. how many would you usually fit on?

Are you trying to burn the songs onto a CD player compatible disc (CDR) using a DVD instead of a CD? That could be your problem.
