Is there much difference in quality between Plasma and LCD? In the middle of converting my attic into a TV room and I can get a 42in Plasma for the same price as a 37in LCD....any help would be grateful

don't know too much about them but we went for LCD because salesman said you can't hook up game consoles, laptops etc to plasma and with 2 kids (3 including dad) we use it more for xbox, playstation and wii.

Its just that you cant/shouldnt pause the game for a long period and leave it paused because the image will burn into the screen.

The same applies to pausing anythingon a plasma! Even Sky+

Much better pic on LCD than plasma. No matter what size, but remember, it does make a difference how far you sit from the screen, with picture quality.

I reckon so. Plasma might have slightly better pic quality but LCD doesnt suffer from screen burn and is cheaper on the elec bill.

Screen burn is a big problem and cannot be gotten rid of. LCD is cheaper on electricity and Plasma WILL run out of gas....eventually! Vodkacolly is spot on :)

Find the best LCD TV (http://www.smartratings.com/electronics/plasma_and_lcds/472) that fits your budget. Do a little research by reading the expert reviews of some brands of your liking. As for me, I settled on a 32" Samsung 1080p tv.

1080p tv.

+1. Get 1080 if you can afford it. That will "future proof" it for a few years and if you get Sky HD you'll be thankful......

I bought a Samsung and now I read this, Its a lovely telly but playstation and Sky+ gets paused when little one needs feeding etc, perhaps for short periods of time, can anyone verify how bad this is and give any recommendations? how long will the gas last? farely pissed off now . . .

in fairness, i think the image has to be paused for a very long time, an hour or two is OK, we have displays in work and we were warned to change the display every week, so i imagine it is a similar time frame - anyone confirm or reject this statement

I have a 50' Smamsung Plasma and I can guarantee it doesnt take 1 or 2 hours for screen burn; more like 1 or 2 minutes.

As soon as anyone pauses a game/Sky+ I have instructed them to turn the TV off but even when you are going through the SKY channel menus its still affects it.

It is really annoying and the TV is brand new

Bring it back if it's only brand new. The problem is only going to get worse. I have a 46" Sony LCD,and the picture is fantastic, especially the Sky HD channels.

How do you see the difference, is it screen quality , I have not noticed a difference but now when I go home I know I am going to be paranoid about it

Go in to any bookies and you'll normally see it. You'll see the outline of the SIS Service(like Sky Sports News) "Burned" onto the screen while they are showing a race. It looks terrible in some bookies.

Was annoyed when I read this so gave DID a call, I asked for a technician not a sales person, he said that the Samsung form Series 4 has Pixel Shift Engineering so to get screen burn would take approx 2-3hrs on pause and that they have software that will remove screen burn. That the best way to see it is as a shadow on a background such as a soccer pitch (how appropriate considering). It takes one day to remove. Also that the Gas would last for 15 yrs.

Anyone find additional ino please let me know,

I am moving house this weekend and have not a clue how to get my 50" tv across town. I could get the lend of a van but dont want to take the chance of breaking the screen. I still have the orginal box.

I researched this on the net the other day and then actually read my Manual.

I have Pixel Shift and it is already turned on. There are however functions on the TV i didnt know about such as White Screen and Wipe. These put certain images on which are supposed to 'clean' the screen. So maybe when I start using these the situation will improve.

I should add taht although I originally said I get 'Screen Burn' after 1-2 minuted that is not right. 'Screen Burn' is permanent, what I got is temporaray and gradually fades. (Its still annoying)
