    Hi folks,

At the moment i have Norton as my anti-virus. I have been told that this could be slowing up my laptop a lot.

Does anyone have any opinions on this and if it is slowing it up, are there any better alternatives to norton

Norton definately slows up a computer. If you check you task manager you can see how much memory it takes up. I am actually getting more memory for my laptop as its 2 years old.

    Agree.
I had Norton a few years back but swapped it for AVG because it was slowing the pc.

Ye I have AVG 8 and its very good. I used to have Kasper-spy that was good though but I found that it found files that others wouldnt find and maybe it didnt need to find cause they were of no harm.

Its also a good idea to use a registry cleaner from time to time.

it can be very slow and miss out on a lot of things it should pick up on. have a look around the net for reviews and you'll find out more on it.

I installed avg but it tells me that my laptop might not be protected because some components are outdated

    I'm lost

Open up your AVG program. Click on tools along the top, then advanced settings. Click on update along the left and then under "when to update files", click "update immediately" and apply.
This will do exactly what it says as long as you're connected to the net.
If you dont connect to the internet for a while you might get the "components outdated" message again. This is relatively harmless as your AVG will still be doing its job.

AVG 8 known for slowing down your pc. Avast or Comodo best. Comodo has excellent firewall as well
