    Hi all,

We currently have Sky+ with everything(sport, movies etc.) We just bought a new Sony Bravia LCD TV and want to get SKY HD to get the most out of it.

When I rang yesterday to get the HD box and subscription, we were quoted €200 for the box and €14.50 extra for the monthly HD subscription. I think my sister only pays €10 a week in her house, and €200 seems quite steep for the box, considering some of their deals for new customers.

I was just wondering is there any Sky experts on board who could tell me are they ripping us off?

    Many thanks,

    Paddser

It was a joint effort among the Paddser household. Saved between €300 and €600 by buying it up North by the way!

Plus the pub is now off limits for Jan, and €2 flights for the Wigan game is probably all that will sustain me through this horrible month!

If you order off the official sky ireland website the price of the Sky+HD box is €74.99 according to this link. The €14.75 is correct for the HD Service.

If you are doing it over the phone they are probably charging you the full price €149 plus the €50 installation charge which you have to pay regardless.

I have the entire movie/sports package and HD and one multi room subscription and its €102 a month and Setanta on top of that.

The HD is worth the money though as once you start watching on HD its hard to go back to normal tv and as I have the full package with Sky you get all the movie channels in HD, Sky Sports 1-3 in HD and the Disney movie channel in HD in total I think there are 25 or so HD channels now

Cheers Pimboli, really appreciate that. Looks like I cost myself €75 by doing it over the phone yesterday

    Thanks again.

    Cheers Wally as well.

What size screen are you looking at? I'd have to disagree, at least in the case of Freesat HD (BBC & ITV). Can't comment on the SKY HD channels.

I can't say what the spec of the TV in your bar is but I have a 40" Sony Bravia full HD and there is a big difference between SD and HD watching the same program on say BBC2 and BBC HD. People's faces look very real. I was a sceptic before I went ahead and purchased a HD box myself.

    Hi mate

I've Sky+ at the moment, coincidently also have the same TV as you.

Just wondering about the Freeview box:

    A) Do you need to hook it up to an ariel, much like the old TV ariels on the chimney ?

    B) How good is the quality of the signal on all channels (I thought this was purely for broadcasts into UK regions ?) ?

    Many thanks
