My laptop is a bit sick really and won't recognise any CDs the week or so. I was burning music on to a cd and when Id finished and tried to put in another disc it would not recognise it. The CD I had burned only burned half the music on to the CD so obviously something happened while it was burning. It wont recognise any cds now blank or otherwise. DVDs work but nothing happens at all when any CD is put in. Anyone any ideas please????

When you put in a cd, does is show up on the drive in 'My Computer'?

Have you installed any new software lately?

Also, how long have you had the pc/laptop?

OK, if you havent run a FULL malware or virus scan on you PC then do so. Take you your PC/laptop of the network completely. It may be malware/virus but it sounds like your it may be ready for the computer morge. Do you burn a lot cds or watch a lot of DVDs?

Dont really watch DVDs on it much no. Burning CDs. Wouldnt really say much at all no. I had burned about 6 CDs a few days before it broke which is the most Ive ever done at the one time. Would usually burn the odd cd here and there thats it. I'll do the virus scan then. Surely the laptop shouldnt be broken already? :( I don't download stuff or anything. Use it alot but just for browsing on the net

Ok, then we should be able to fix it. Run those scans and while you are doing it, root you OS and DVDROM install cds. You might need to run a repair.

My bad. I mean, locate your operating system DVDROM install cds. They are cds that would have come with your pc/laptop when you bought it. The OS one will have the name of your operating system on it. (Windows XP, Windows Vista). They are used to install your OS. (operating system.)

Hold on to that one. That probably had the cd drivers on it but no, the OS one will have the name of your operating system on it.
