Not sure on the TV situation yet...

But one thing is sure..

A win is required in this game... big time.

I'd love to at least see Torres, Masch and Skrtel on the bench if not starting..

And Im gonna go with a 1-0 win.. Robbie keane with the winner!!

:)

As it's not a Saturday the Setanta Ireland deal does not apply and Sky can not show any 3pm KO this day either. So we will all be looking for streams online or listening on the radio or both.

Top at Christmas! How good is that.:):):)

if we can string together 3-5 wins it will give the lads great confidence and give us an even better platform to push on from there but we simply have to win this game.yet another home draw against a 'lesser' side would be a big body blow.still, have to fancy us-we have a very good home record against bolton in recent years.

A big game, and one we should. Just hope the tension doesn't roll from the stands onto the pitch. As we know Bolton will come and sit back and it's up to us to break them down. We usually have a good second half to the season so a strong festive period could set us up for that elusive number ninteen.

Its an opportunity to go 10 pts clear of the mancs before they play(they might have 3 games in hand but i dont give a fcuk, pts on the board for me is what counts)and that il be the benchmark from now till the end of the season.Wherever they finish once were even 1 point ahead of them il believe that will be title winning form.

Are they not on at 13.00 v stoke

The pub near me at home has it, so thats Stephens Day sorted.

Hope to see Insua and Keane in there from the start. Maybe give Babel a run instead of Riera or Kuyt. Dirk has played almost every match and with Newcastle two days later he could do with a rest.

Reina, Arbeloa, Carragher, Agger, Insua, Babel, Masherano, Alonso, Riera, Gerrard, Keane

SAMMY DELIGHT AT CHRISTMAS NUMBER ONE

Sammy Lee believes Liverpool's position as the Barclays Premier League's Christmas number one highlights the huge strides they have made this season.

The Reds assistant manager admits the Reds are in an ideal position as they prepare for the festive double-header with Bolton and Newcastle but insists they must now ensure they maintain their place at the top of the tree.

"We've improved. We are in a better position than we were last year," he told reporters at this afternoon's press conference.

"The race is closer because we have come from something like fifth last year to first. Okay. Nothing is won by the end of December, but you can certainly lose a lot by not being in the chase.

"We are top. We would like to stay there. We know it is going to be very difficult but every single one of these lads is working hard to make sure we maintain that position.

"If you'd said at the start of the season that we'd be top of the league at Christmas I think we'd have all been pleased with that."

The hectic nature of the Christmas period means that while supporters are tucking into their Christmas turkey, the players will instead be running through last minute preparations for Bolton.

Lee insists this is a fact of life for professional footballers and is confident the players will remain focused on taking maximum points from the next two matches.

"It's normal to be in on Christmas Day," he said. "The lads are professionals. We know we've got a game on Boxing Day to prepare for. It's already been said that we have our Christmas at different times.

"We've got two massive games in a short space of time and so it's important we are ready for them sand the lads know what they've got to do to prepare for those games. Hopefully that will all go okay and we can get maximum points from those games."

Liverpool's hard-fought draw at the Emirates, coupled with Chelsea's stalemate at Everton, means the Reds still lead the chasing pack by one point after 18 matches played.

Some observers have suggested they should have taken all three against the Gunners following Emmanuel Adebayor's red card, but Lee is adamant a point was a good return from their trip to the capital.

"Every point is vital," he said. "You go into every game and would always like to get maximum points but you also have to be realistic. Beforehand we'd have accepted a point at the Emirates and we were pleased afterwards too.

"Okay maybe we should have taken advantage of the fact they went a man down, but we are pleased to come away from it with point. It again showed the spirit and desire of our lads after going behind, to come back."

When asked if the equalising goal against Arsenal would prove to be a big moment for Robbie Keane, Lee said: "It's a massive moment for everyone. It got us back into the game.

"People are always trying to make something out of nothing. Robbie's been brought here to score goals. He's a terrific player and a terrific lad and he just showed what he can do on Sunday."

I expect us to win but I have to say Megson has done an excellent job with Bolton. It was only a few months ago that their fans were staging protests about the man because they despised him so much. Fair play to him for turning it around. Elmander looks like a very shrewd piece of business and they actually play a bit of ball at times now too. Its going to be a tough match.

The Cuckoos Nest is showing the match on Friday. The pub is open from 12-6pm.

Given our past performances at home anything is possible but we simply have to win this. Bolton are a tough side to play against. An early goal would be fantastic. Also the crowd needs to stay off the teams back.

Reds duo set to return
Benitez and Torres recovering well
Last updated: 23rd December 2008

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez should be back in the dugout on Boxing Day and striker Fernando Torres is closing in on a comeback.

Benitez, who underwent an operation to remove kidney stones last week, was absent from the touchline for Sunday's 1-1 draw with Arsenal with Sammy Lee again deputising in his absence in Tuesday's press conference.

The Spaniard, who kept in touch with the bench at Emirates Stadium via mobile phone, is expected to have recovered sufficiently in time for the home meeting with Bolton.

The clash with the Trotters may come too soon for Torres, who has been sidelined by a hamstring injury since the end of November, but he is back in full training and improving with every day.

Battle plan
Lee said: "Rafa is a lot better, he's on the mend. He has been in a lot of pain but he is improving.

"His presence is always missed, but the organisation he has put in place is such that even though he has not been here this week, the battle plan is still there.

"We know what we have to do, the game plan is there, it is business as usual. He is missed and hopefully he will be back with us for the Bolton game.

"He is a hands-on manager, it is hurting him more being away from the training ground really, but he will be back soon."

Lee was less forthcoming over Torres' return, the 24-year-old having now missed five matches after suffering a recurrence of the injury that ruled him out for six games earlier in the campaign.

But having been insistent that Torres would not figure at the Emirates on Sunday, Lee stresses that the situation is improving.

He said: "Fernando's progressed and has markedly improved. He is getting better. He improves with every training session and he has worked very hard on his rehabilitation.

"We will put him in when we see fit, that's not evasive but I don't want to start revealing our line-up."

Babel, Gerrard, Alonso, Reira

Liverpool have suffered another injury blow with the news that right back Alvaro Arbeloa is facing a spell on the sidelines.

The Spanish defender pulled up during training yesterday and is believed to have sustained a hamstring strain.

Rafa,Nando and Skrtel on the bench would be a nice christmas pressie all wrapped up in 3 points.

If Arbeloa is out I'd like to see Darby start. If Insua and Darby were both playing I think it would help with the crowd. There would be more patience and support for the young lads.

That ones a bit worrying.
Although Im all for youth development and think that Darby looks a prospect, i would much rather have a fit Arbeloa.
Ithink with Skrtel mack on the mend, this could lead to a spell on the flanks for Carra.

Sami Hyypia and Yossi Benayoun come in for Lucas and the injured Alvaro Arbeloa.

Though Benitez is back at Anfield, Sammy Lee is still likely to take a prominent role on the Reds bench.

have been on the site only a couple of months but have been bleating on about insua over and over again in alot of threads, please god let rafa see a star has been born at long last and let him be a constant fixture in the majority of matches.

We need to follow this up at St James' Park to get our momentum going. Plus I'll be watching it with my Geordie Friend so if we don't win he'll wreck my head! ;)

Great performance yesterday and glad to see Robbie Fighting for his Liverpool life. Hopefully the bad patch is behind him now and can be chalked down to nerves about stepping up to the plate forhis boyhood heroes.

It seems like he will. I think he is ahead of Dossena in the pecking order now. It will be interesting to see what happens if we get heinze in january though.

Brilliant match from start to finsh for us, never looked like anything but a home win and there were some fantastic performances.

Great too see Insua playing so well and its going to be hard for aurelio to get his place back. Keane had his best game in a liverpool shirt and finally looks like the player we all knew he could be. Thought Bennayoun was decent too which is something i haven't been able to say in a while.

Star man on the day for me had to be Alonso, the guy is an absolute legend! Ran the midfield with consumate ease and was the heartbeat for the entire performance.

One other positive is El Zhar and Ngog, thought both looked lively and dangerous when they came on, el zhar snatched a few of his efforts but he looks pretty good. Lucas was very solid too when he came on.

Great day at the office, bring on the geordies!
